Hello The Stranglers, you have been a major influence on me ever since my teenage years : the songwriting, the amazing musicianship and alchemy of all four of you (I think it was probably JJ who made me wanna play bass in the first place), the attitude. Thank you so much deeply and please go on forever. CHEERZ, ZAK

Awsome stuff. Thanks for posting. I was big into these guys back in the early-mid '80s. I managed to see a watered down version of the band in the early '90s. Only the bassist and keyboardist remained from the original group. Still I managed to enjoy it. I wish someone would post a vid of "Ain't Nothing To It" and "The Man They Love To Hate".

They need to make a law that all cameramen and -women who film concerts must be musicians. Every time I see a rare live performance, the camera spends all its time on facial closeups.

I'm not sure this actually is 1981. Considering Burnel isn't using a Precision I would hazard a guess at 82/83. I could be wrong though! They did a couple of tours to support the "La Folie" era material I seem to recall (the second time being after "Golden Brown" had become a hit single) so, although "La Folie" the album was, indeed, released at the tail end of 1981, this could still be 1982/ 1983 on tour supporting that same record.

It is 1982. It's from "Off the Record" which is also on KZbin.

It's 82. JJ is using a BB1000 Yamaha bass. Couldn't replicate the sound of his Fender Precision. He used a Steiner headless for a while before going back to a Fender Precision. Fender still refused him a signature bass after all the years. JJ now uses handmade basses from John Shuker and now has that familiar grunt back.

They were advertised in 1977 as PUNK Floyd angry Psychedelia certainly not prog rock as suggested by the comment above. Hugh was a big fan of early Floyd and Cream stuff like that. But PUNK they were.

You kinda have to work with the Clash. They make a lot of mistakes, but that's part of the appeal -- they're always trying to do something they don't know how to do yet. Case in point: 'Combat Rock' is almost a crappy album, except in the middle of it there's 'Straight to Hell,' a reasonable pick for the honestly best rock song of all time. I'm not a mindless fan or anything. I'm just saying.
