Absolutely superb! I used to play this on my way to work, teaching French in a secondary school. It set me up perfectly for the day ahead.

I discovered that song that was at the end of the LP Album brought home by my older brother in the beginning of the 1980s when I was 10 surviving emotional misery living with my divorced mother in the suburb of Brussels Belgium… it was very depressing, my only escape were cartoons on TV until I got hooked by this kind of music that was going around im the house… it was instantaneous - I felt my body becoming lighter and my brain just getting strangely joyful… Dopamine rush to a kid who wouldn’t imagine until he became 50 that his brain type is ADHD and level 1 ASD… I listen to this magical song whenever I can I got it on my Apple Music library and of course in my KZbin channel… and it always gives me the same trip Merci Messieurs ❤

When I played this song for my first wife, right after we met, she started to cry. I was 20, she was 18. I remarried many years later, but still, when I hear this beautyful song - I think of her. My first love. 40 years after.

Mr Macaulay, take a bow sir as you led that track from start to finish! I reckon this live version holds up as strong as many of the great tracks that the Stranglers have performed.

La folie = madness was inspired by the story of cannibal Issei Sagawa. Really disturbing. And people play Golden Brown at weddings.. not realizing that its about Heroin. The Stranglers always go much much deeper than most people are aware of. Thats what makes them so great.

Might be a bit literal but this is pretty close: "Good Evening Your vehicle doesn’t seem to have any passengers Could you? Would you let me in ? Or would that be too much trouble ? My steps won’t echo too much in your passageway No noise accompanies my parting No wasted moments for us Waiting for an uncertain reunion Because I’m mad, yes it’s madness There once was a student Who had a great desire, as they say in books His girlfriend was so sweet that, by eating her, He was able to reject all vices, repulse all males, Destroy everything beautiful Which up until then, had never been known to him Because he was mad, yes it’s madness And if sometimes you can confess to it To whom can you reveal all - even god himself has deserted us Another life, another place And of course, another story But to whom can you open your heart ? At dawn, at dusk how may crimes have been committed Against falsehods and so-called laws of the heart ? How many are here because of madness ? Because they are mad"

I love the bass line on the studio version. Fretless?
@NannyWhip5 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, you can hear a bit of fret buzz on the sliding parts.
@ALV-gs1xg5 жыл бұрын
Not fretless but he's using chorus effect which fretless players frequently use. I was at this gig and the one in Compiegne. Great tour.
