I was there in '90, they came on after about 5 hours of support acts and when this started I could feel there was something in the air; of course as it transpired it was their last gig as the original lineup! Fast forward over 30 years and I've enjoyed hearing and seeing both The Stranglers and Hugh solo (and JJ solo!) regularly ever since. The lesson? When it's over it's only just begun... Best track at this gig? Something better change!

Excellent live version of 'Toiler On The Sea'. Too bad that Hugh Cornwell decided to quit The Stranglers that year in 1990. But he had his reasons. He just felt The Stranglers couldn't go any further creative wise with the music. He called Jet Black on the phone that he was quitting. Jet Black's response was "OK". and that was it. Dave Greenfield was one of the best keyboard and synth musicians in the world of rock. He did look much better with a mustache. May he Rest In Peace.

This was the end of the first main incarnation of the Stranglers besides Ellis , I saw this tour and it was the last time I saw them over a 13 year period. They were a tired out version of their former selves but still a good show. Now I see the dynamic that made Hugh decide he did not want to continue, real shame.

I never had any real interest in seeing the Stranglers live, just listened to their albums and enjoyed their music. I wish I had seen them and hope I get a chance to see them in the future. Definitely on my list as a must see band now. And yes, tour the USA! Big thanks to everyone who shares these gems on KZbin!

As an 'old punk' I loved John Ellis for his work with 'The Vibrators' first two LP's, why did The Stranglers need to add a 'touring guitarist' to the line up? It was The beginning of the end for me! Yes, there were a lot of overlays, on the later records as the band got more adventurous! But they had such an amazing keyboard player , and a 'LOOP PEDAL' could have done the rest! Ironically, Hugh Cornwell uses this now in his live sets! Bad move getting John Ellis in, and the next incarnation with Paul Robertson was just awful! Sorry but that is my opinion! dx

You're not alone thinking that way. I suppose the so called fans who never saw them in their earlier years would disagree. In the early days they WERE the best, absolutely no doubt about it. I remember seeing them at the beginning, I remember that moment even now. Totally blown away!

@@rayenbow3281 I saw The Stranglers around mid 80's in my hometown of Santa Barbara, California at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. They opened up for Roxy Music, which I thought it was a bit odd. I think I was the only one who knew who The Stranglers were from the rest of the audience which they seemed not too interested in them. I kept shouting a few times "Peaches and singing some of the lyrics, but for some reason they did not play any of their earlier songs. Hugh did respond to me and said "Ah. Someone remembers." It was a fantastic concert both by The Stranglers and Roxy Music.

Shug is playing what looks like a Gibson and IT'S ALL WRONG! The sound, the look, everything. Maybe that's why he looks like he's not interested in what he was doing - he's got the wrong effin guitar. Did he lose his Telecaster and was in mourning, or something? I actually saw them in Edinburgh in 1990, and apart from the extra guitarist, they were great. Don't know what happened at the Ally Pally.
