This was my great great great grandfather, and keelan got changed to keeling because my great grandfather cot busted for making moonshine, and he high tailed it out of Tennessee up to Michigan to avoid the law. My grandpa's name was orrin keeling. We have a relative who is Burried in the middle of a farmer's field, and it can't be moved by law, it's down in Tennessee a relative of James as well. When I was a kid my grandpa would tell the story every once in awhile and showed us an old newspaper article about him. Have a blessed day.

My g-g-grand uncle, Gilbert White Underdown was one of the Union men who attempted to burn the bridge. He is quoted in Oliver Temple's book "East Tennessee in the Civil War." Former Sevier County sheriff William C. Pickens was the man in charge of the attempt. Six of these men ended up becoming officers in East Tennessee Union regiments raised in Sevier County and mustered into US service at Camp Dick Robinson in Kentucky. Gilbert White Underdown was a 1st Lieutenant in the Co K, 2nd Tennessee Infantry US. His brother Joseph Dickson Underdown was Captain of Co K, 2nd Tennessee Infantry US, but never came forth as one of the bridge burners,

***** Gilbert "White" Underdown was my GG Grand Father. His Son Stephen King, son of Susan "Sussy" King and Gilbert, was my Great Grand Father. Samuel White King, Stephens son, was my Grand Father, whom I loved and miss very much. We know very little about the Underdown side of the family. Where they came from, when they entered the USA or much of anything. I really enjoy hearing about our past ancestors. From what I can find out, we should all be very proud of Gilbert "White' and his brother. Wish we knew more.
