Another band that you could hardly call underrated, they are adored.

i saw them at Texas Hall at the University of Texas at Arlington on the Hero and Heroine tour in 1974 or 1975 (I don't remember the year, you know, those days were a bit foggy)and it was just this good! They opened for Blue Oyster Cult, and everybody was so unreceptive to them, but for me it was the best concert event of my life, and when BOC came on we stayed for about ten minutes, we just didn't want to ruin the experience of seeing Strawbs live!

Saw a similar show at Auditorium Le Plateau, Montreal; 07 february 1975... with my neighbour friend, Vincent who played keyboard in Maneige, a MTL based band. A unique moment in my years of concert going fan.

This was the first concert I attended. The album Ghosts had just been released. Welsh group Man (with Deke Leonard on guitar) was the opening act. I remember Dave Cousins explaining the technical problem they were having (a voltage issue) that caused John Hawken's mellotron to go flat. Brilliant, nonetheless. Renaissance, on the Novella tour, played the same venue a couple of years later.

pierre slate I was there...to but i preferred The Place des Arts Concert in 73 or 74 can't recall....The 78 concert at The National was amazing...as far as Maneige they've been a fantastic band specially live...from the beginning they were special as Lasting weep and then after...they stole the show when they opened for Soft Machine at cage Maisonneuve...what a great Quebec band

"Autumn" è - assieme a "Suonare suonare" della PFM - l'unica canzone di sempre che riesce a commuovermi, farmi piangere ed emozionarmi ogni volta che l'ascolto. Pura magia!

They still play! check out strawbs web and they play with curved air on legends of rock gigs so its worth checking out that site too. I ve seen them over 20 times in the last 5 years or so allways totally epic, both acoustic and electric. But the Electric gigs at standing venues are simply mind blowing Honest!

I saw this Tour in Paignton, with a group from School. Unfortunately the Moog broke down so they couldn't finish the set properly but ended with a couple of Acoustic numbers!one being 'Papist'.We were told to keep our ticket stubs and they would be back,I'm still waiting!
@Stibsyt3 жыл бұрын
Actually it was the Mellotron that broke down, unsurprisingly. I know this because I was there too with my mate from school and we're both still waiting too!

@@Stibsyt My mellotron M400 was always breaking down or eating tapes. That was a feature, not a bug.

Thanks for uploading - this was a BBC live to air radio concert which is why the sound quality is good. As others commented below, some 'rude' lyrics have been edited out from the live transmission..

The Strawbs s` later years albums deserves your attention, since all are really good. "Baroque & Roll", "The Broken Hearted Bride", "The Ferryman´s Curse" and last year "Settlement" . Also really good are their 80: Deep Cuts", "Burning For You" and "Deadlines". This is a band, that should have been widely known worldwide. Also check out solo albums by guitar player Dave Lambert, vocalist and main leader Dave Cousins and bass player Chas Cronk.

Indeed. Though having played live quite a bit, sometimes you get excited on the first song of the set and just launch into it like mad! Maybe that's what happened here. If the drummer goes nuts you just have to follow.
