This cat is in constant pain with infected gums and mouth, and bad teeth. Even the food you give him hurts him as much as it helps. If you have to sedate this cat long enough to get him cleaned up and treated, you need to do that first. Keeping him for weeks in a small cage, when he has always been free, and feeding him but not freeing him from pain is never going to tame him. He cannot understand!

He's still in pain and until the source of that misery is cured he's going to stay miserable with chronic pain. Interaction attempts will go better if the critter is feeling good. @@jesusislife9259 well it was mentioned on the video, there was a guy who used to abused the cat when he was out in the streets.. is not something we made up, and sorry to break it for you but people can be terrible, i mean not all of them, they are taking care of this cat, i do care of cats as well, i rescue one that was also pretty feral, i had to rent a trap to get him and it took me 2 years but now he lives in my home with me, he loves to be pet, i can pick him up, and he came for kisses and we are best friends, but it took time and patience. actually funny thing, i ended up my relationship with my fiance, and was very depressed when he came into my life, so i used to get drunk every day, then i took him inside and he got sick, one day he didnt want to eat anymore, the day before i was drunk and got upset because he didnt allowed my other cats to eat, so i yell at him. big mistake, he almost died. he was on intensive care for a week at the vets, i went to visit every day and i asked god, Lord Shiva, if you save my cat i promise i wont drink ever again.. so he saved him and that was july 2023 i havent drink since. Whenever i feel like it, the first thing that comes to my mind is: my cat is more important to me. so in a way he saved me too. :D

Stomatitis is very painful. That alone would make him defensive. Being in a cage with no escape just kept the bad memories open. Could he be given an oral sedative in his food so he can be treated by a vet? Relieving his pain may allow him to accept you faster. Wishing you all the luck possible with Snake Cat. I volunteered for a cat shelter as a trapper, cleaner, showing cats like this, people could be trusted not to hurt them. I adopted many of them myself. Once a kitty trusts you, you have a friend for life. Takes patience, kindness without forcing yourself on the fearful cat, food, just talking to the cat without contact.

Don't you take all rescues to a vet to be checked out first? If they are this vicious the vet can give them something to temporarily put them to sleep so they can treat them. Keeping a cat for so long, like these people did, is a form of cruelty as well.

I had a situation similar to yours. This kitty was rescued from an alleyway behind a downtown church, starving, angry, and scared. After nearly thirty days of protective isolation in a room there was no change in her aggressive attitude. She was about two years old, small and bore wounds that suggested she had suffered attacks and abuse from other cats or humans. A veteran rescuer suggested to me that I open the door to the room and allow her to migrate into other areas of the house. This also meant that she would encounter my other feline residents, all non aggressive and accepting of a new creature. Within 10 days, the hissing went away and her defensive behavior transitioned into love and acceptance. She became one of the family. Hopefully you will achieve that too. Thank you for caring.

Thank you for rescuing this poor cat, and giving him a second chance at life. It takes a very long time for any animal after being beaten, abused with cruelty to gain their trust and friendship, such as this cat has gone through, with accepting someone. Yes this precious soul has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It breaks my heart. THANK YOU for not giving up on him. Keep on caring for him. The reason he liked that one toy is the spotted feathers were untreated feathers of a Guinea Hen and he treated them like a real bird. Try to get more spotted feathers like that.
