I totally agree, sometimes a drawback for a show that cannot deliver the excitement that the theme suggests. Not Streets though, although not exciting by modern standards it had main characters with integrity and they felt real which helped build tension, making the resolution ( although there was not always a resolution ) seem more grounded. And a social conscience ( it can't be overstated how important that was in US media in the 60s and 70s and how it influenced young people prior to the me me me Randian 80s )

Superb isn't it? The Dan August theme conjours up the same feeling for me. A period of great themes, Cannon, Mannix and Ironside were some other tv faves of mine. In the UK our TV police dramas were a bit mild by comparison but we did have the double hard Sweeny with a fantastic theme. British comedy themes were of really high standard back then eg Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Goodies, Steptoe and Son, Rising Damp, The Two Ronnie's, Morecambe and Wise, Dave Allen at Large and many more. One of the cleverest was Porridge in which the title sequence was without music and was a dialogue of a judge sentencing the main character Fletcher to a prison term but with a fab credit sequence theme.

One of the best 70's era police drama classics! Our first introduction to a young Michael Douglas. Quinn Martin made so many greats like Cannon, the Fugitive and Barnaby Jones. Thanks for posting this flashback memory clip!

Nicely put together. For the record, there is an extended version of this theme with jazzy breaks in it - years ago I had it on a compilation album called 'Funky Soundtracks Pt.1' but I stupidly sold it on eBay. I've not heard it since and it doesn't appear to be on KZbin although there is a live cover by Bob Moreno's band which is clearly based on that version. If anyone has it, please put it up, I'd love to hear it again!

Siendo niño enloquecía cuando escuchaba esta canción y mis padres esperaban que la escuchara y de ahí a mi cama a dormir.Era como mi canción de cuna. Con los años hasta hoy me hice fanático del Funk,Jazz Funk y del Jazz Bebop entre otros rítmos musicales.

Te entiendo absolutamente amigo.... a mi me pasaba lo mismo. Esa música era realmente alucinante para mis oídos de niño. @@hugoswan7400Malden was particularly fine in this show, a decent man with decades of experience and a good handle on how to deal with the social malaise of his time. As much as I loved Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry movies, I'd rather be a jaded old Mike than the borderline loony with the ever unholstered Magnum. Douglas brought his own college intelligence to the mix and I think they complimented each other really well, which made an effective team.

The truly great thing about these shows is that they were an hour long and in that time you have to tell a story with the beginning a middle and a satisfying end and they were able to do it perfectly there was not a second a film wasted not like nowadays where you have Netflix shows that have a fantastic beginning but no middle and no end

@@ericwilhelm2941 Sorry, I saw your reply here just now.. For the recording Sessions for the Pilot and the first 4 or 5 episodes were Clare Fischer and Artie Kane for keyboard instruments. Basses were among others Charles Berghofer and James D. Hughart.
