@@BobLee-df4zh We used to get American shows without any ads on Dutch television. A long time ago. Nowadays, I don't watch tv anymore.
@Hibernicus19682 ай бұрын
As others have noted, they cut the credits to allow more commercial time. What no one has mentioned yet, is they've also cut more of an episode's screen time. Back when this show started in the 60s, an "hour long" American show was fifty minutes in length. Only ten minutes of the hour was allocated for commercials. Today, during the hour allotted for a show, you only get forty-two minutes of story. Similarly, a half-hour show used to be twenty-five minutes, and today, twenty-one or sometimes twenty-two. What's more, any of these shows aired today on commercial television are _also_ edited down to the shorter modern standard. The stations don't make the cuts, they are provided with edited cuts by the studio that owns the rights to the show. The studios have had someone go through each episode of an old show, and cut a few seconds here, a few second there, throughout the whole episode, to provide a final version pared down to the required length, without inadvertently excising any key plot points or important dialogue. If you want to watch these old shows in their original, complete run time, you have to buy the series on a streaming service or buy a physical media version. With so much less time allotted for the actual show during its scheduled hour or half-hour, the creators of modern shows have elected to dispense with opening credits that take up a minute or more of that increasingly precious time. Maybe as streaming takes over and the set-schedule broadcast model eventually fades away entirely, catchy opening theme music will make a return.

Mort Stevens, the composer of this fantastic theme, was a man whose musical gifts were exceeded by only his kindness. When I was in college, I had the opportunity to hear Mort speak at a performance program at Walt Disney World. At the time, I was just starting to develop an interest in composition and he could not have been more supportive. After graduating, I moved to Los Angeles where he invited me to attend one of his recording sessions. Over lunch, he shared some of his experiences and thoughts about the creative process. What a special day that was. When he passed away, I was honored to receive an invitation to his memorial service, where I had a chance to share one of his letters to me with his widow. SOCORRO SILVA Ot premiered on Tv in the fall of 1968 and ran for 12 years until 1980. I didn’t memorize the date because he was a relatively unknown actor who starred in a TV series about a rodeo clown called “ Stoney Burke” which had already been cancelled but was still running already filmed episodes which had not been shown on TV yet. I actually went up to him and told him how much I liked his series “Stoney Burke “ and he told me the series had already been cancelled. ( Oops!) and he was filming a pilot for a new series about the Hawaiian state Police to debut in September of 1968. Hawaii has warm weather all year round so it was probably Jan- Feb of 1968. The network bought the pilot and ordered more episodes and put it on Tv that September of 1968. In those days, all Tv shows had new and old shows “ debut in the fall and summers were always devoted to reruns episodes of the TV shows. There were no Tsing devices available to the public so, if you missed an episode, you had to wait around until “ summer rerun season” and hope you could catch the episode you missed when it originally aired. The network only did 3 months of reruns from a 9 month of episodes , so you might never see an episode you missed. In those days, we were afraid to leave the house if we wanted to see all the episodes! Lol! Many of our families couldn’t afford a TV until we were in elementary school and then only back and white TV series were available! When color TV became available, our families all rushed to be the first in the neighborhood to buy this “modern technology”.. Do you watch old black and white episodes of “ I Love Lucy”, the Andy Griffith show, etc. Those shows were not filmed in color until the early 1960s or so! We didn’t expect a lot in those “ good old days.”

@@m.e.d.7997 Beatles weren't cool but popular. They toured internationally and Elvis never even toured in Canada or Mexico....Europe and Japan. The Beatles spent their first US Capitol years after international fame as quirky boys in a boy band. That's the image in their concerts, publicity and movies. By the time the reinvented themselves, they were hippies. Elvis was still placing top 10 new hits from his movies when the Beatles were too. I like both, but on the coolness scale Elvis is higher at least in the 50s and 60s.

I just watched a video where I learned the guy who filmed the theme song footage (Reza S. Badiyi) is the same guy who filmed the footage to go with The Mary Tyler Moore theme song. And it was his idea to have her throw the hat in the air and have it stop like that. He also did the opening montages for Get Smart and Mission: Impossible. I would have loved to do something like that.
