🚨 What do YOU think of the Stridsvagn 2000? 🚨 Does this tank give you serious Command & Conquer vibes, or what? Let me know in the comments below if you think this beast would’ve changed the game for modern tanks! And don’t forget to hit that like button if you’re as sad as I am that this never became a reality.

Looking for input! I think the MBT is too niche, too large, too expensive, and too vulnerable. I feel a large IFV / Light Tank would be superior as it can fill more roles and capabilities. Think a up gunned, modernised Bradley. - 57mm gun for direct fire supprt for the Infatnry, it would also allow it to predate on any armoured vehicles other than MBTs, and is capable of engaging low and slow CAS aswell as large drones. - Twin ATGM cheek launchers for anti Armour. - Twin MANPAD cheek lauchers on the opposite turret cheek for anti CAS and drone. - 40mm automatic grenade launcher mounted in an unmanned turret for anti personale. - .50 gatling gun also mounted in an unmanned turret, potentially the same turret as the 40mm automatic grenade launcher. This will have a dual-purpose role for anti personale and anti drone.

140/40 Turret, not just Yes but Hell Yes ;-)
@Jreg199211 сағат бұрын
It needs a second big gun and crv7 rocket pods on both sides of the turret, to be the mammoth tank. This mega-tonk was close but the 40mm coax was mounted odd and would mess with my intuition/accuracy (put that dang Thang on the same mantlet as the main cannon).
@Jreg199211 сағат бұрын
@@fightforaglobalfirstamendm5617gotta fit all the internal stuff, remote turrets don't only stick out the top - they full up the inside too. Gat .50 like the gau19 uses a silly amount of electricity. 40mm grenades (low pressure or high pressure) have too short of range. Although, the video-game warthunder would crown your super-IFV king! Keep working on the idea. Maybe just the 57mm autocannon, 4 HVM general purpose missles, and a drone launcher (with the dismount compartment repurposed for drone management and drone storage).
@HMSConqueror11 сағат бұрын
I think it was a interesting development for maybe a new series of tanks and IFV and APC, but the turret probably needs some rework and maybe fit a 120/55 or a 130mm, 140mm is powerful but carries too few rounds.

having a 40mm as coax is borderline unhinged lol.

It is, but I've wondered in the past why we haven't seen it on some of these designs with massive main guns. Like Mat said, with how little ammo you can carry for a 140mm gun, taking some of the load off by having something smaller for soft targets might be a thought? Of course, that second, smaller gun and it's ammo is taking up space that could go to more of that big gun ammo...trade offs, but which way to go? But then, in the era of drones, a 25mm that could also be tasked to auto-engage those small flying threats with air-burst munitions could be an idea?
@bordercrosser10007 сағат бұрын
@@iDEATH I think something like the 30mm from the AbramsX is a more of a reasonable choice.

For big arms purchases of new systems Sweden almost always develops an idigenous concept at least we did so in the past. If you look at what became the Strv 122 procurement there was the Strv 105 prototype an upgraded Centurion for comparison that had a lot of modern features, the indigenous design was the Strv 2000 and the competing nations where the French US and Germans as the British where not interested because the Challenger 2 was not ready and inferior in multiple ways. The Army actually equated the M1 and Leo 2A5 as equally good but the lower price of the Leopard clinched it together with not liking the turbine engine for gas mileage. Remember Sweden used a turbine gas engine in the S tank so they knew more than others its advantages and drawbacks

This tank would have been incredibly expensive to develop and produce but man, it was incredibly ahead of its time. 140mm gun, crewless turret. Add onto it an EW (drone and ATGM jamming) and a anti-drone APS-style system and it'd be peak right now. A shame it wasn't ever produced.

Glad to hear the CV-90 was the base for that tank. Because there are plans for a CV-90 direct fire variant for 120mm and 130mm guns. So, if there's a reliable 140mm gun, the CV-90 would probably also get a variant with a 140mm gun.

Great video, thanks for showing us a future tank design that was done back in the 80s, the Stridsvagn 2000 seems to be a victim of being ahead of it's time, it would have paired with the CV90 family well, CV90s have been exported to many countries, the Stridsvagn 2000 could have been just as successful.

Sweeden could and are capable to go back to this project redesign and make it a reality. With new APS systems to intercept not only RPGs and ATGM but drones also. They could though decrece the size of the gun to a 120mm L55 or the new Rienmetal 130mm gun. I think the 40mm bofers is to big have a coax 30mm or 35mm with a machine gun and a crows 12.7mm set up. It was though for the time way ahead of any other design.

Very interesting video👍- had no idea about this project before Considering that this beast was planned and designed in the 80s, describing it as an "ambitious" project would be an extreme understatement. 35 years later, German and French engineers are arguing whether a 130 or 140mm gun should be installed in their future joint tank...😁 However, it is extremely questionable whether it would have been possible to build a chassis (and turret) in the 80s, that could have absorbed the monstrous recoil forces generated by this 140mm gun for an acceptable time (or number of shots) without quickly being confronted with structural problems 🤔 What sounds absolutely strange from today's perspective is that the (or one) impetus for this project was apparently the massive overestimation of the Russian T-80(U) tanks. What would have happened if this 140mm gun had hit a T-80...🚀😂
