I knew that the wars you fought in Iraq and Afghanistan were BS (people were killed, that's for sure), but saying your main enemy was dust is laughable. The Challenger is the best-looking tank out there! But let's be honest: if the radio communication between the crew and infantry doesn't work in some real war engagements, the tank is useless. Just imagine the amount of BS that would be in the comments if you were talking about some Soviet or Chinese equipment instead of the Challenger!

Hey Mat, just wanted to say thank you for all of your work. I´m literally enjoying your vids for ages and watched almost all of them. Love the insights you give us on so many topics :) What you said about the tank crew communicating "oldschool" with the infantry men (handsigns, shouting and so on) is becoming a thing again, even in other branches. For example some countries train their naval forces again, how to navigate with a sextant and the stars. Since ECM-warfare is evolving, I think it´s super important to have a "manual" method of communicating and navigating on the battlefield to fall back on, if your systems get jammed. Super interesting stuff

29:17 Judging from its idler, drive sprocket & 4 large road wheels, the target AFV looks either to be a WW2/post WW2 era Czech Skodawerke/Pilsen manufactured: -'Panzer 38-T CKD LT vz ' (With turret 37mm KwK L47 cannon, used by Wehrmacht) -Or possibly: a WW2 'Jagdpanzer "Hetzer" 38 Sd.Kfz 138/2' (Tank Destroyer With the 7.5 PAK 39/L48 cannon) -Or: The open topped AT 'Marder III Sd.Kfz 139 Ausf H (Mid gun) or Ausf M (Hinter/Rear mounted open top'd casemate) with 7.5cm PAK 40 or using captured stocks of Soviet 76.2cm F22 field gun) (They'd made a few Flakpanzer 138 20mm equipped variants too) -Or most likely: The post war Swiss Army G13 Tank Destroyer w/7.5cm PAK 39 (158 vehicles produced for Swiss Army post-war) Great vid on the CV90!

I'd rather have an M2, with way more than 3 kinds of ammo, portable enough to be carried by 1 healthy, adrenaline fueled soldier supported by a few more. Sure, it only penetrates 20 mm vs. 40 mm of armor, but it's way more "man portable", and the ones freed from carrying the gun can carry more ammo, the weight of the ammo means the ammo Bearers can carry more... the M2 comes out as a better HMG as anything the M2 can't defeat the zlAAW can and that would be the next step up from the KPV as well.

Meh. The US Navy has had almost a dozen guns of bigger bore, not to mention weights and calibers, and a three-gun 16"/50 Mark 7 could make islands go away. Maybe if it was a two-gun mount, it wouldn't look so... out of place? Plus, it would add to the throw weight for supporting the Marines and other Naval/Amphibious Infantry forces. Also adds the redundancy of TWO guns. 😮 Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with the DoD, I just think that a "Gun Cruiser" like the US Des Moines-class with its 9 "main" 8"/55 RF battery and everything else upgraded to Aegis/VLS with a 5"/62 for the "boats" and close bombardment; kind of an amalgamation of the Des Moines, the Ticonderoga, and the Zumwalt.

THESE VEHICLES ARE ALREADY OBSOLETE, THEY NEED HYBRID ENGINES LIKE THE ABRAM X TO BE ABLE TO PRODUCE OR GENERATE MORE THAN ENOUGH ELECTRICAL ENERGY TO KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING SILENTLY, ALL IT'S SYSTEMS AND POWER A BAD ASS LASER OR /AND A TESLA FIELD TO PROTECT THE VEHICLE AND IT'S OCCUPANTS, ALSO THAT "WIRED" MISSILE LIKE THE AMERICAN TOW, MAKES THE VEHICLE VULNERABLE WHILE THE MISSILE IS FLYING TOWARDS THE TARGET, IT SHOULD BE FIRE AND FORGET WITH 3 TYPES OF SEEKERS (INFRARED, RADAR NARROW BEAM, LASER), ALSO THE DRONE WOULD BE LAUNCHED FROM THE VEHICLE TO DO RECONI0, LASER, AND TROPHY SYSTEM , THE EXTERIOR SHOULD HAVE HUNDREDS OF FINS MADE WITH ULTRA HARDENED TUNGSTEN OR FERRO FLUID, THESE FINS WILL BE ABLE TO DEFEAT THE COPPER JET FROM A SHAPE CHARGE, ALSO MAYBE A TESLA FIELD , THE CHAIN CANON NEED TO BE LIKE THE 40 mm BOFORS OR THE 50mm. NORTHROP WITH PROGRAMABLE ROUNDS,, ENGINES WILL HAVE TO BE HYBRID LIKE I SAID, THE WHOLE CONCEPT HAVE CHANGE SINCE THE UKRAINIAN WAR HAVE COME BECAUSE THE UKRAINIANS MADE A HUGE MISTAKE GIVING UP THEIR NUCLEAR WEAPONS UNDER A LIE OF TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY IN BUCHAREST, EVEN CLINTON ADMITTED THAT, IT WAS LIKE SERVING THE CAKE TO PUTIN IN THE FUTURE (NOW) WELL SINCE 2014, NOW THE UKRAINIANS HAVE TO BE BEGGIN FOR WEAPONS EVERY OTHER MONTH? EUROPEANS ARE ALL DIVIDED AND THAT MAKES THEM EASY PREY FOR THE DICTATORS OF RUSSIA, CHINA, North Korea , IRAN, WELL THE USUAL AXIS OF EVIL, SPECIALLY RUSSIA, WITH THIS STALING NEWBORN IN CHARGE, IT'S SAD AND WORRISOME, IF EUROPE DOESN'T PROVIDE AVIATION , ROTARY WING (ATTACK & TRANSPORT) TO UKRAINE SOONER THAN LATER, THE NATO COUNTRIES WILL HAVE TO CONFRONT THIS EVIL THEMSELVES, AND THAT'S GOING TO HURT EVERYONE, BUT THEY CONTINUE TO SQUABBLE AND SELFISHLY NOT GIVING EVERYTHING NEEDED TO WIN THAT NASTY CARNAGE

THE ENGINES ON THE VEHICLES HAVE TO BE LIKE THE ABRAM X. (HYBRID) TO BE ABLE TO GENERATE ENOUGH ELECTRICAL POWER TO RUN THE WHOLE VEHICLE, IT'S ELECTRONICS, A POWERFUL LASER AND ELECTRONIC WARFARE AND WHAT HAVE YOU, THOSE DAYS OF ONLY GASOLINE OR ELECTRIC (ONLY) ARE GONE, THE LANCET TYPE MUNITION IS ONE DANGEROUS WEAPOJN, ALONG WITH THE DRONES, IN THE END THE DEFENSE WILL HAVE TO INCLUDE SCALAR WAVE TECHNOLOGY , TESLA FIELD PROJECTION, THE OUTER DESIGN OF THESE VEHICLES WILL HAVE TO BE LIKE HUNDREDS OF FINS LIKE THE ONES ON A MOTORCYCLE ENGINE, BUT VERY ROBUST SO THE JET OF MOLTEN METAL COPPER WILL NOT PENETRATE THE ARMOR IN ANY FORM, THE OTHER ONE IS WITH THE HARD KILL TYPE LIKE THE TROPHY SYSTEM, BUT MUCH MORE EFFICIENT AND WITH MORE SENSORS, YOU'RE RIGHT, IF YOU DON'T LEARN FROM WHAT'S HAPPENING IN UKRAINE, YOU ARE PLAINLY DUMB

all nato tankies stuggled initially with the desert and they did learn lessons and I dont recall any real issues with fuel supplies and I was there but not a tankie, scots dragoons raved about its great accurate gun, good punch and long range and felt safe, none were lost to the enemy and talking about the tank being used in urban I never saw that happening, they were always parked up or out in the sand pit - not straying far from tarmac...

When we look at 2024 then it can be said that it has some flaws, but if we go back 50 or 60 years as the whole of Europe has been since WW2 when almost all the buildings were built of reinforced concrete and if we know that the settlements were very close to each other then everything is clear why such weapons were made, especially since we could see now in Ukraine that this caliber is also small when there is a civil war. NATO and the US knew this very well, and until the FAB bombs were modernized, Russia had no chance of breaking through additional fortifications in small towns. Why do I say that NATO and The United States knew all this very well? For the simple reason that they had the experience of 1999 in Serbia and that was why the West all the time said that Russia was running out of ammunition, more precisely without missiles?!?! For the simple reason that they knew very well that Ukraine had quite enough S-300 and Buk M1 systems And that Russia will not be able to bomb Ukraine from FAB bombs, of course, until Russia has modernized its FAB bombs. NATO fired 4 500 kg Tomahawk explosives at one building in Belgrade, and that building is now a shopping mall because all these 4 missiles could do was break windows and the building has over 20 floors. If Serbia had at least 10% of the air defense systems that Ukraine had, NATO would not have been able to carry out its operation in 1999 over Serbia, But given that Serbia was under sanctions, it had to defend itself with systems that were designed 20 years earlier than the S 300 and Buk M1, and that is why NATO aircraft could fly freely over Serbia and bomb it with ordinary bombs because Tomahawk is an easy target for any cannon air defense such as 20 mm and 30 mm guns but despite that NATO lost a certain number of aircraft F 117 with the help of the S 125 system, but even with Buk M1 systems NATO could not do what it envisioned or more accurately it wouldn't pay them to try it because they would have so many more losses. And this is the real reason why the Western media has been saying from the very beginning of the conflict in Ukraine that Russia is running out of missiles! Because they were convinced that Russia would use Iskander missiles to penetrate Avdievka and actually modernize the FAB bomb is a turning point in this conflict and here is a Tulip 240 mm Too weak to do anything. I think the biggest problem of NATO forces is that they did not invest much more in their air defense systems and it can be seen in the forum, they thought that Ukraine has quite enough systems S 300 and Buk M1 and Russia knows these systems very well and that is why they modernized their S 300 and Buk M1 3 more times and added some more systems to them such as Pantsir S 1 and Tor 3, The difference between these systems is that the new Russian systems react 4 to 5 times faster and that is why so many russian systems react faster. And that's why it's so easy to shoot down Missiles Himars and others, and in addition unlike Patriot systems, which are not enough S 300 PMU 2 has a range of up to 250 km and these missiles Russia has much more than the West can imagine and the Patriot has a range of up to 175 km like the S 300 PMU 1, which Russia realized was not enough back in 1993, Because if almost all missiles carried by NATO aircraft have a maximum range of 300 km, it means that in order to be accurate they have to pass at least 200 to 250 km and that They are the most expensive missiles and that's why Russia built the S 400 in 2007 and started selling them before 2015 and to be able to provide enough missiles with a range of up to 400 km, which means that NATO would have to sacrifice all the planes if it wanted to just try to hit some of the targets because those missiles would be shot down by systems such as buk m2 -m3. Tor m1 - m2 and Pancir S 1 among others.

New ammunition is currently being worked on, and it will be a much more effective explosive bullet which will not differ much from the current 20 mm of ammunition for the simple reason that a new explosive charge is being worked on, it is also being worked on a classic anti-armored bullet, which includes a penetrator and explosive charge around it and an incendiary bullet for the simple reason that the 14.5 mm - 114mm caliber is very accurate and the grain size is quite large enough that it is a pity not to use it to fill new types of explosives,I think it's also working on a bursting bullet that should be the perfect weapon against drones. And otherwise in Russia is 12.7 mm - 109 mm as opposed to western 12.7 mm - 9. 9 mm, and this is especially for sniper rifles much significant, 12.7 - 9. 9. mm It was done exclusively because of The Browning so as not to heat the barrel and then the filling remained for sniper rifles in the West and therefore these rifles are not considered as long-range and precise rifles, but when the charge is 12.7 - 109 mm the difference is more than 20% both in distance and precision, and as far as machine guns are concerned, the barrel changes much easier so that heating is not much of a problem.

i really struggle to accept this kind of "review" of a tank in iraq. they dident face what they ultimatly where build for. fighting other tanks. ofc they struggle in the enviroment of a hot desert with a lot of dust. any tank would since they where developed to fight in the rather chill enviroment of eastern europe. what we saw in afghanistan or iraq where upgrades ( and not only to the challenger. leopards, M1 aswell) to try to compensate the hight heat and dusty surroundings. you will only know how succesfull a tank really is when it fights another tanks. the war in the Ukraine will deliver specific insights wether the tank as we know it is obsolete or if it can be molded into something usefull again. and already you see the next weakspot coming up. small kamikaze drones nearly undetecable and highly effectiv on both sides. what the tank faced in iraq where RPGs and IEDs. ambushes by infantry etc etc. and given the circumstances that only few where lost during the iraq war i would say it was at least not a total desaster.
