The Strip in Lafayette, LA, once a thriving nightlife destination, now stands as a quiet reminder of its past. From the late 1970s through the 1990s, this area was packed with bars and clubs, offering cheap drinks, memorable cocktails, and endless nights of partying. Patrons fondly recall all-you-can-drink specials on Fridays, blue margaritas, and the energy that would spill into the streets long after closing time. With motorcycles often lined up outside, the scene was as wild as it was vibrant. Even bikini mud wrestling during Mardi Gras right on the damn street. Over time, however, the focus shifted downtown, leaving The Strip mostly abandoned and filled with nostalgia for those who once called it their weekend playground.

Awesome video. Thanks for making it. Definitely some sad nostalgia seeing it like this. I spent like 7 years bouncing around that strip. 1989-1996. Makos was always my place ... $5 all the draft and hurricanes you could drink on Fridays. $3 on Tuesdays. But I loved Nitecaps as well. A great change of pace from Makos... And who didn't love those Blue Margaritas. I'd get 2 in hand at 1:55 so I could drag the streets after 2

Dude you are awesome! Thank you so much! Yeah Nitecaps was our spot too. We drove all the way from Lake Charles almost every weekend. Miss that whole area.

Thanks for the post. I graduated from comeaux in 91 and spent the next few years at nite caps, the loose caboose, then outer limits after 2. Great memories.

That place hasn't changed much since the 1970s. I first ventured on the Strip in Lafayette, LA in 1977. The drinking age was 18 years old then and I was 19.

Does anyone remember the old guy that would bring out his bbq pit on the street across from Shanahan’s at about 1:30am? Best cheap burgers anywhere! In fact I still add bread crumbs to my burger meat and think of those days. Nitecaps and Makos were our favorites. And the chair! I lived in the small apartments a block down from the Keg for two years. What a great video! Thanks for sharing!

I graduated from UL last year, and live a few streets from this strip. It's completely dead now with abandoned buildings, and the party scene is strictly downtown. But it's very cool reading stories about this area.

Nite Caps use to be a place called the Swamp Fox during the 70s. It was a Biker Bar. Motorcycles would be lined up in front of the bar nightly.

It still has a lot of potential to be a cool place to go for college kids. I wonder what will happen to it? There are new lights strung over the street now. It looks cool.

Agreed, memories...or lack of haha. We use to hit up firestones all the time too. Favorite pill was the dolphin double stacks. We got em when they were fresh on the scene. I miss it man. I've been listing to Trashy and Acid, craving to jig...
