@Ryan Jachtmann interesting, that could be mixed in there. Seems to me it's about his dad, and maybe the relationships he witnessed and a little of his own relationships mixed in there. His dad was a world-traveling, important, wealthy sort of dude. He even had an affair with Stephanie Seymour when she was 16 (he was 41). I'm sure things like that bred a lot of animosity with Julian. But that's just my interpretation.

I had a toxic relationship with a girl for 3 years. We broke up, but despite the bad things she said to me, I still think about her. When this album came out, we broke up a few days later. Before and after, it was my favorite song from the album, especially the part where Julian says, "I'm gonna say, what's on my mind Then I'll walk out Then I’ll feel fine.” This is still my favorite song because it somehow reminds me of a girl with whom I have a lot of bad and many good memories bind us. Hopefully she is fine because her father is sick with schizophrenia and she has to deal with all this alone. If she reads this, I will tell her that I hope you are well and I wish everything was better. Goodbye, I am starting a new phase of life.

This song is me and my father’s relationship. I grew up so desperately seeking pride and validation from him because I looked up to him. Our closeness has been forever fractured by my older sisters death and the circumstances around it. She was his favorite, and what happened has crushed him in sorrow and regret. He coped in self protection, and waits for me to turn out just like her. You can no longer be proud of something you think is doomed, and the resentment shadows a lot of our interactions. It’s taken a long time to unlearn how the three of us cope, and to not internalize what he sees in me

Hello everyone, I haven't heard many songs by the Strokes nor by Julian Casablancas and the Voidz (it seems this guy has loads of things going on) so I am not a "specialist" of his/ their work. Anyway, I came across this song after discovering "Human sadness" by chance. So I was listening to this ode a bit unattentively while assessing some of my students' papers, I gradually grew more interested by 3:30 min and "yes, that sounds good, didn't expect that" and ten comes the finale by 4:20 min and...HELLOOOOO!? What's going on here?!! I'm overwhelmed with an unspeakable mix of thrills, feeling of nostalgia, desire, need for screaming, hey, what's that? Thay play with such humble talent, no overdone demonstration, ouh, this guy Julian and his fellows carried me away.

5:21 - That vibrato, man. A million singers can do it and use it all the time, sure. But the thing is, the emotion behind it is dulled for the listener when it’s a standard element in a vocalist’s performance. Julian though, rarely ever uses it, and so when you hearing it there, it hits your core. That desperation… damn. Less is more.

l'll look back at this time in my life and think of this sound as I watch the world around me change. this album gives off a end of the world vibe during some parts and something these guys are always good at is making you feel melancholic of a time you remember or never knew. But I guess you could say the root of happiness is the sadness through which it pervades. Every chord these guys hit makes me feel a wave of emotion and I wish I could thank them for the impact they've had on my life

Saw the Strokes in Berlin in February 2020. They played Adults are talking for the first time and it blew me away. The whole concert was great. Shortly after corona came and concerts were no more. When the album finally came out I was immediately hooked on Ode to the meets, to a point where I would autistically listen to that song on repeat. For months. On my way to work and back home... just this song... Corona made the subways empty and the streets eerie. Ode To The Mets was my loyal companion in those weird weird times.

In the difficult moments of my life, When I lost hope of everything and everyone, When they left me and I left them, I missed and loved, when i needed him there, i was always listening to this song and filling with mysterious energy that has made me strong to this day. now, when „he is back from his trip" and „waiting for me down on the street" again, i want to say that the songs we love do not lose their meaning for us over the years as well as the people who we love unconditionally.

I recently moved out to go to university and I definitely wasn't ready for it. I never liked my town, but the distance from my family was hard. This song was very comforting to me during the bad days, "it's just the story i tell to you" I didn't want to admit how difficult it was for me, "i needed you there, but I didn't know", I always thought i was fine being alone, until i moved to another city where I didn't know anybody. I realised that the reason why I liked being alone was because unconsciously I knew I had people "waiting for me, down on the street", until i met new unknown roads. Could keep going, but I'm gonna end here lol it's just interesting to listen to the song from this perspective, It changes everything
