There's a thing called shield hbg. You should try it out. Basically invincible while dealing "slightly" less damage than a full offensive hbg build. Lose the scope and some close range mods and slot in 3 shield mods. Slot in guard 5 and guard up and you'll basically have the defensive capabilities of a lance while dealing thrice, maybe even 4 times, the damage. Not to mention the ability to bring in much more utility than lance can offer with sleep and paralysis ammos. Need even more utility by sacrificing little damage? go shield sticky. Monster is fast and agile and hard to chase around? Go pierce and shoot at literally any distance. I've never tried hbgs before in base, only used agile weapons like bow and db, or weapons that punish monster openings like gs and hammer. Picked up hbg in iceborne and jesus fuck are hunts such a cakewalk. I tried lance a bit later on, after maining sns since hbg feels such a cheat to use and I felt the sns buffs made the weapon a bit better to run in solo. Needless to say, yes I was definitely tanky but the monster seemed to be tankier as well. I get damage numbers in the 200s with the charge attack but every other poke deals 100-150 damage. For reference, my elem bow builds when used on monster weak to that element, can deal upwards to ~80 damage, PER ARROW. And I never get hit that much anyway since dodging attacks becomes easier the more you learn a monster's moves. Lance really needs a buff, it was such a fun weapon to use, too, but adding 3-5 mins per hunt just because I don't deal enough damage despite constant uptime on my dps makes the lance a bit frustrating to use.

@@alvinderama3196 that's why you equip the shield and block attacks rather then rolling it is the best shield in the game as the shooting animation is only 0.8 seconds (spread 3) and then your back in your block stance i personally run health booster and just stand in it and wait for the monster to come too me

The build is still worth making but only for 'easier' hunts, like anything high/low rank and non-tempered MR (and some tempered...mainly threat level 1 mobs) or in guiding lands where it really doesn't matter if you die. That scope takes some getting used to also

Yeah, I agree with rest of the guys. Basically you are wearing one more armour piece worth of defense, fortify and three health boost with earplugs. With that dps. And you have Impact mantle to give additional CC. If you're failing to flinch lock with that, you're probably doing something wrong. And I guarantee, you'll still have a decent dps with special scope 'and' close range up all replaced with shield.

you guys, seriously are not thinking this through. you lay traps. you immobilize, and then you go in. you do so much damage that the monsters are constantly getting their parts broken or falling down. That's how it works. 2 or 3 shots is all you need. keep the weapon sheathed and lure the prey. if it's an elder you'll need to practice to know how and when it's gonna fall/be immobilized. sure you might die more often than most hunters, but you'll also find some of the easiest clears you've ever had because you just melt them down. no monster survives attacks this strong for over 5 mins.

Also Also: Felyne Heroics is still better. 35% instead of 40%, yes, but you can run any armor you want. you could run Brachy and sprinkle it with an enormous boost in crit and raw skills. Definetly amounts to more then 40% increase in total.

I'll have to agree on the heroics and survivability. But I disagree on the heroics 40% damage increase part. Yes, mathematically, you do 40% more damage on every single weapon. But you can't really look at the percentages. 40% damage increase for a lance pales in comparison to, say, 40% damage increase to HBG or Greatsword. Tl;dr Percent increase to a doo doo damage will still deal doo doo damage. But percent increase to a weapon that actually deals damage (not lance), now that is good.

If a raw damaged based lance player runs this set, he will gain 40% more effective raw, increasing his damage output by 40%. The initial damage output doesn't matter. Besides, you act like lance is only doing like 10% of the damage of weapons like hbg or gs. I'm not sure if this still is correct, but for a time lance outdamaged longsword and chargeblade, two weapons that are very commonly used with heroics in the ranks of speedruns. TL;dr: Lance is still a viable weapon, and lance speedrunner will gain a massive boost from heroics. But thanks for aknowledging the survivabillity aspect. A huge problem that needs adressing,

I agree the Lance needs a buff. I would add guard up immediately when entering power guard, that woukd save a deck slot. I would also add a skill or a rework of the challenger mantle that would make the monster attack you and only you for a set time. But honestly, why does the Lance exists? Well, bowguns need to be like this. Even how it is now, bowguns r still quite low on the popularity list. If you make them too weak then who gonna be bother to use them? And remember that bowguns provide a lot of utility for the whole team, such as set up sleep, paralyses, knock down, etc. ALSO one important thing is: the build here is SPREAD build (close range) with a scope, and WITHOUT shield mods. SO it's not an "easier to play" style.

Bowguns can provide utility, yes. So why should they also do the highest damage on top of all of that? The only difficult part about using bowguns is positioning properly while you empty your load onto the monsters face. No mechanical skill is necessary other than aiming in the general direction of the monster that you are shooting at.

The high damage is there to encourage people to use those weapons, then when people use them, hopefully they will provide their team with utility. LET look at another weapon with a lot of utility, the Hunting Horn, how does that goes? How many people r using it? As I said this build is very close range, without the shield mods, with the scope and HBG is very slow. So avoiding damage from monster and try to position yourself is not easy. IF it's so easy and the "only difficult part about using bowguns is positioning properly while you empty your load onto the monsters face" then why don't you use it and start to main it instead. Nobody prevent you from doing so, right?

The main problem with the lance is how much you need to invest in Guard skills. I think Capcom should make it so that Guard is a 3 level skill and Guard Up is weapon-dependant, meaning that heavy weapons have Guard Up by default while lighter weapons don't have it. And also the weapon needs a long-animation move that does good damage when monsters are downed.

I think it'd be cool if the team revamped the new iceborne mechanics to it where monster attacks can be reflected back consistently in a similar way to the charge blade's guard point except always on? Heroics is a double edged sword, Yes you get an amazing 40% damage up, But is it worth it if you are constantly under the threat of getting one-shot by literally every tempered monster? You'll be carting every time the monster brushes past you, and god save you if you are fighting something that moves around a lot, Like a Rajang or something, You accidentally get hit once and that's the end of the hunt. In My opinion, If you are not an absolute god at evasions and openings(Which most people are not), Don't rely on Heroics, It will only get you killed. (Also Special Scope, Fuck that thing, It might look alright in the training area, But you'll have a fucking stroke trying to line up a perfect shot mid-battle, and this ties in with using heroics, Cuz the monster will easily be able to clap your cheeks while you are struggling to line up a single shot)

You can argue that spread has become what cluster use to be however spread still take some level of skill since you have to hug the monster, analyze the monsters movements more and not get to greedy in between shooting or risk carting. gunners have horrible defensive body armor and usually die between 1-2 hits from certain monsters because of it. With that said I am curious if you can make this work, if you build defense boost so that you can maybe tank more hits the issue you might run into is trying to add more raw though and possibly lose some crit but I'm sure the raw damage should over look some of that.

I say if you are a high rank player then just go for the Safi build. You can use the rajang hbg to farm safi. Sticky ammo are the most reliable, they are good for everything. They are not hard to player either, if anything they are the easiest.

I just can't work with heroics. What are your options to purposely get your health in that range before a fight, and then getting it back to that range after you heal from a hit? You'll be struggling with that alone during a fight and that could easily cause you to cart, especially for more difficult battles. This build is excellent on paper but too much of a hassle in battle. Sticking with TSS and a shield

I'm still not that good at using HBG but wouldn't that just leave you open to monster attacks? I find HBG to be much slower than GS but atleast with GS the dodge-rolls gives you enough time. Could you show as a game-play on how you use this build?

lance is buffed though, but not damage, but flexibility. You wont need to rely with the back hop anymore since you have the clutch counter.

I loved your video, but I have a recommendation. Since some people like “wounded” damaged example, using Training area 2 would be much better to prove how far stronger the weapon actually is. X1.20 (20%) damage increase on the wounded wagon 🙀❤️!

So it seems like a great setup for speed running but very risky for normal play because u have to be below 35% hp. It’s ridiculous tho, I calculated for greatsword and Heroics secret + 2x Fortify with Safi greatsword comes out to about 2600 attack........
