On this special episode I talk all about DMT with neurobiologist, pharmacologist, chemist, writer, Dr. Andrew Gallimore. What in the world is going on with this crazy chemical? What's at the bottom of reality? Can DMT somehow help us answer the deep questions we have about reality?

I loved how you described the psychedelic experience as a tool. You took the words right out of my head. It shouldn't be a dragon we chase rather the psychedelic experience is here to provide us meat puppets context to this waking world. This waking consciousness is the real trip if we could learn how to actually see it and be one with it.

My DMT experience where I was hurled to, had unusual high definition colors. My realm or the realm I was taken to was squared and pixelated. Every time I inhaled and exhaled it felt as if I was inhaling and exhaling the atmosphere within that realm. I may not be making any sense of this but it’s the only way I can explain it. I wasn’t fearful of the experience but I did feel anxiety because I lost track of time and felt as if it was going to last hours instead of minutes. Thank God it was just for a few minutes. This was my experience. For everyone’s information, it was the first time trying psychedelics ever in my life. I think I handled it fairly well for my first time and never experiencing anything like that.

You know how when you dream the dreams are bizarre and very "trippy" in how they look and feel? And you know how scientists still don't know what exactly it is that flips the switch from wake to dreaming? What if DMT messed with the synapses that control that "switch" it doesn't quite flip it but it sort of electrically shorts it out and we get a blend of dream brain reality and waking brain reality. What you get is a twist of the tippy dream world overlaid on the physical world.

So... got spice from a guy who was too scared to do it. Tried with glass bulb method eyeballing the dose. Saw some fractals and didn't break through after some attempts. Got a better rig and measuring device on the way. Even with that slight experience, it scared the crap outta me being in wonderland and feeling that it is realer then actual reality. The body sensations of my forehead being on light/fire and the tingling through my nerves on the come-up are so fear inducing. Hoping to speak with some aliens before it runs out and have no way to acquire more. I do have to say that there is this inexplicable background feeling of familiarity that I have also experienced in deep lucid dreams. You know those dreams where you get some grand revelation and then cant remember it upon awaking no matter how you mentally strain to remember it? Very similar. The intensity is nuts though and I hope that eases up a bit as the breakthrough happens or I wont be able to pay attention to crap.

My strangest dmt experience was kind of like a breakthrough into the environment i was already in. It was so outside of context compared to any of my other psychedelic experiences. Aside from a friend who was talking and looked like old school animation when slowed down enough to see the pages flip by... Aside from him, everything was hyper still. It felt like being inside the wireframe of a video game, but all the objects in the environment had such presence, all so sharply defined. Another of my friends later said I wouldn't shut up about how still everything was. It was like, profoundly without movement. Very strange considering all my other psychedelic experiences could be defined (at least in the visual sense) by kaleidoscopic, ever-morphing phenomena. Strangely, dmt is the only substance I've ever had hallucinations in black on (I later named one of my songs Hallucinations in Black... although the video has very little to do with the actual content of those trips). Anyway, the trip where everyone was hyper still effects me deeply to this day. Everything was so different in such a profound but ineffable way. It was a different order on consciousness altogether, but given a short period of adjustment, I could've functioned in this world every bit as effectively as I do now. God, I wish I could explain it better, but the deepest thing I learned from that trip is that there are experientially different ways of perceiving reality that have nothing to do with emotional states, but with the modes of perception themselves. We all might live in very different worlds...

I've done it 100s of times and almost every time it's STILL very difficult. It's just such a jarring experience. And yeah hitting it 3 times is hard as fuck. I usually only get 2. Sometimes you need a friend to hold pipe and light it for you. Or possibly put more spice on the bowl and rip it hard. Idk...so yeah after some "practice" you at least learn like to calm yourself a little more but yeah it's just so fucking wild it's hard to not bug out a little bit lol but go into it like a ritual and do some breathe work before, be hydrated, have friend to help, be determined and surrender to the experience knowing you will be ok! Good luck lol!

Have you done Salvia before Shane? I did once about 10 years ago, and it was THE most intense and scary experience of my life. I dont really have words but I felt like I was floating through black empty space forever. I dont mean space with all the planets, I mean just blank space. I kind of thought I was dead and for some reason stuck here forever (which I kind of was) . My life was a fucking mess at the time and i smoked it in my bedroom alone, a fair big fat fucking bongs worth too. When I came back to my bedroom the TV told me to go back to college. I did. I now have a psychology degree and am training as a counselor/therapist. Have trips ever made you change your 'real' life drastically like this?

Here's something the purple lady told me "it isn't if you win or lose, it's how you play the game" among other little slogans or sayings, she was giggling the entire time and giving me help and showing me terminal love, I woke up crying and saying "wow I'm not alone, wow, we're really not alone"

I think it's no coincidence we both saw the purple lady, we both have ginger beards Shane, it's the connecting factor I finally figured it out! If your funny and have a good beard then you get to meet her 😂 personally I think she talked to me because when I heard a booming voice that asked me "WHAAT DO YOU WAAANNNTT?" and like an infant I replied "I don't know, whatever you want to show me." And I guess that was the perfect answer because after that I was shown hours upon hours of "fun" and "playing" with her. It was the single most influential time in my life. Like, the first time I was in reality.

Great episode, the ending was a bit jarring considering the subject of psychedelics and talking like conspiracies are b.s. (or you must believe the war on drugs is based on science) I wish policy was based on science and the greater good, but that's clearly not always the case. See war on drugs, war on terror, whole economy based on unlimited economic growth that may be the end of us etc. Anyways, thanks for the great and free! podcasts, greetings from Holland!

Corruption, cover-up, manipulation, and all sorts of other things can happen and do as the war on drugs is good evidence of. Conspiracy theorists peddling 5G type paranoid delusions undermine all of our ability to fight against actual corruption. And the conspiracy theorists I'm referring to are the ones confusing scientists with authority and constructing mad scientist delusions hoax virus and anti-mask nonsense which is not only harming all of us, but hurting the war on drugs and psychedelic advocacy.
@zachadelic8110

Remember when the drug company that made Oxytocin said that it was "non addictive" based on their science?! Science changes all the time and would change more than it does now if people weren't so focused on "being right" even when there is other evidence. The war on drugs was a tool to arrest hippies and black people. It's on a recording of Nixon I believe where he says "we need to start a war on drugs so we can take down hippies and black people"! Like it's fairly obvious that prohibition does not work! The drugs have won for suuure! It's a racket to fund for profit prisons! Where is the science that says its good or working? The only way we eliminate the criminal element and overdoses is to legalize everything and distribute it through a regulated centers! That's the only answer at this point!

I would love to hear Andrew talk about timothy leary and the 8 circuit model of consciousness. I read the end of alien information theory and the conclusion was basically that we are evolving to become dmt entities. Which was a very similiar thing to what in the 8 circuit model at circuit 8 is post-biological meta physiological self awareness. Sounds awful similiar

I kinda understand what shane was trying to say, like our brain has a background operating program that we aren't aware of that knows how to translate basic data autonomously in a way ,talking about shapes connecting to another shape to build up a fractal . and how if that is our unconscious reality it relates in very similar ways on how the brain works in waking reality in how we build ideas , form sentences etc(i typed this and then Andrew started talking about June's standpoint about unconscious being autonomous )

Dude combing his beard during an interview. That's a first for me. :) Hey, you should get Bernardo Kastrup on. He's an analytic idealist, but he has also had experience with psychedelics. He probably would have some great insights. From what I can gather he believes that the ego death people experience on mushrooms is very similar to the complete ego death we will all probably experience when we die, considering mushrooms reduce brain activity on an MRI, yet we have these rich experiences.

For me, she was about 3 feet tall, kind of exotic looking like Aztecan or African style kind of, she had long pig tails or something, and she had kind of a 3d smock thing on, like a crude kind of dress that was like really thick or something, and it had symbols on it that were constantly shifting, and she was purple but to show light or to give it dimension it had kind of a yellow light reflecting off of it or something. But she was "the best", that's the best explanation I've been able to come up with for me. She's just the best.

42:45 ... nailed it,,its all signals being assembled to a cohesive whole by the brain - so the question is where are the signals and intelligences broadcasting from when we ingest dmt, a fascinating inquiry.. edit: also i further agree, there are far too many objective observations made by now, even with myself, oh he saw the playground, he heard this or saw that - so that it has to be an actual sidereal universe and ingesting the molecule allows us to swith antennae to pick up the signal

Regarding the idea that dmt world is too perfect (and maybe too simple) to be reality, it’s possible that the elements of randomness in our world, like the wrinkles in skin, are a product of information degradation. For example aging being the degradation of dna. Maybe the departure from form (randomness) is a flaw, not a feature.

I think the question isn't how is the brain doing these things but rather how much of you is your brain? If you are more than just your brain then maybe DMT just threw a wrench into the brain's engine freeing you from your brain. Your brain is programmed to experience the physical world but if you aren't a physical being then you are free to experience the nonphysical world.

Well put and honestly I kinda agree with this! Definitely that we are non physical and are just basically Loving Awareness is what I call it. There actually really isn't a "I" either I feel we are just like some crazy quantum movie or theater for "God" which is also "I". We are all God in drag. Something different masks and suits.

I know I’m 3 years late, never done dmt. But have looked at so much stuff about it. I hear people talk about it being another place and not a hallucination. It’s seems like if it were another place then a born blind person would be able to experience sight there. I’ve searched but never found a born blind person talk about it. Someone who had sight at one point in life isn’t a good subject for this.

I don't see why more people aren't more interested in this purple lady deal, since I've seen her, this life seems much more dull, searching this out and figuring out more about her and what she shows us seems so so so important to me, like she showed me the perfect path for me laid out for the rest of my current life here, and the proof that she is real is just overwhelming, it keeps coming up more and more. Your in a better position to band people together Mr Mauss, please try and make some kind of place for us to talk or chat for us to link up, this seems so important not to try and get together and learn. I was told, "do your best you can to tell them, but most of them will just think your crazy, but the ones you need to talk to will come to you, and you will know what to say. Now get back to work, your real job, don't kill yourselves, and do the next right thing." And so far, bliss is not far away wherever I am and whatever thyself gets up to.

See so I kind of question weather or not the things we see on DMT are the "same" thing but wearing different masks. Like I wonder if you saw the "purple lady" because you heard about it and thought about it and had a preconceived notion of her possibly showing up! So I've done dmt 100s of times and each time is very different but some similarities. Before knowing about the purple lady I saw all sorts of beings usually jester or weird aliens mantis, grays, ect. So yeah I'm not saying one way or the other I'm just curious. I kinda assume it's a archetype that is within our collective unconscious mind that is the divine feminine that manifests itself as purple lady. Just curious...obviously be pretty hard to figure out unless you get like 100 people who don't know bout her and blast them off a bunch lol or like do the people in the Amazon see her? Or even the jesters because they like aren't in the culture.

@@zachadelic8110 it doesn't seem to be the appearance that meant anything, but the training and things she sent me back with, it's taken a few years to see that. There seem to be many many names for this Devine Feminine, so the part where she left out her name, makes sense, because I would have just made a pre-determined judgement off of a name because I'm a simple human and that's how we roll. We want everything all packed in a box with a label on it. My life is still reflecting the positivity from my experience. Still going forward with social work 40+ hours a week. Still all about experience and learning. Still getting tighter with nature and rivers. I was blessed that's one thing for sure, regardless of the who how and why, I have definitely been given a second chance at life, and I'm grateful for the 11 minute adventure in the middle of the country on February 8th 2020.

Pandoras box, metatrons cube, ect. Once it's open you can't close it sooo be careful with the cubes!!! I opened the box and am basically on a perma trip kinda...no more "inner voice" like it doesn't ramble anymore just is me, I can imagine things but like SUPER vivid but it's like moving all erratic shifting crazy like the thing will come thru a black liquid and move back ect. Idk if it's all because of opening the box or whatever but it all started after I proclaimed out loud "I want to consciously move towards enlightenment" then later that day opened the cube and yeah....Basically shot into the "Dark Night of the Soul".

Since you said to talk shit SHANE YOURE WRONG!!! I'm just kidding. But I did want to share a parallel critique of "ego-death" in the psychedelics world. I appreciated that line of letting people disagree with you. But the whole use of the word "ego", at all, is so supercharged. Therefore we can't say "ego death"... If you look to the mediation traditions, and all religions, they all have two similar components. "Impermanence" and either "no-self" or "true-self" It's the internal experience of not having a permanent separate self. These people train the reprogramming of the default mode network, and they experience increasingly more full modes of nondual perception. These people taking psychedelics often have peak experiences. And philosophizing and psychologize. But they'd get the most out of psychedelics *_if they treated their own mind,_* as they do psychedelics. Yes studying your own sober consciousness won't solve the "what is DMT" problem, but if they are obsessed with ego death, what they really want is permanently abiding in nondual awareness... Where there is no sense of self, no sense of agency, no doer, no bee-er. There are still the normal systems that defend the body from death and feed it every day. So I suppose that's what other people call the "ego". This ego is intact to keep the animal person Alive. Just, there is the weird little process inside the head and body. That tries to constantly pretend their is this nonexistent self inside the head. So basically that process stops. Anything talking about "kensho" from Zen or "stream entry" from SE asian Buddhism, is pointing to the first step in being able to do this. One MD who did this stuff just calls it "Awakening". It's not mystical, it's matter of fact. It's like the original, non superhuman, Buddha was. You essentially become an empirical scientist but of the 6 senses. The 5 physical senses and their mental equivalent. A lot of what these people want is this. Also by improving concentration they could get good at relaxing mediations, or techniques that get them high on their own body... but what they really need In conjunction with nondual practice and concentration is a love-type practice. You slowly teach your body how to enjoy a low level MDMA state. But not just selfishly. _So you can be kind and light with people._ This solves the problem of being overly selt-identified with psychedelics or mystical experiences. Who cares what I have experienced when I have basic appreciation for people. Most of the podcast was either about science or philosophy. But venting a little about people who talk about "ego death" is more psychology. Forms of insight meditation, kindness mediation and basic morality, are all the solution to this. This what someone obsessed with "ego-death" really wants. And it's what someone offended by those people could use to solve their offendeness and sense of friction with these people. There's a lot of social stuff in society, not just psychedelic circles, but it's definitely potentially more complicated in psychedlic circles. It's like social baggage, and personal suffering. The stuff I've described is just a pragmatic way to fix it. The people who have the most to gain are people who both meditate (well enough and regularly enough for their needs) and who are also able to take psychedelics. I haven't experienced all of this yet but I have no doubt its real. I've used psychedelics in the past.

I wonder if an AI can be trained to access the signals from the DMT realm like the brain does when we ingest, and allow an intelligence from there to communicate and 'incarnate' into our world, perhaps this is already being worked on,,

Jung is definitely worth a look too, I'd suggest 'modern man in search of a soul' or perhaps 'a brief introduction' - Andrew Marr. Both of those are also available on audiobook if you're into that, as is Peterson

I've seen a dark blue purple skinned woman in a hypnopomic hallucination. She seemed to be a kind of scout from another dimension, as she just observed me and had a camera like device around her neck. Her body was an idealized form, tall curvy and slender. I've never done DMT, but shrooms. I think it was possible because of endogenous DMT in my brain and my awareness if these entities.
