I missed the Brigadier. I have 5 Strymon pedals and 3 of them are (almost) always on. Those three are the Deco (only the right side and barely audible. I use it as a doubler), the Flint for the reverb (just because it sounds good) and the Brigadier which is also almost always on and again set to thicken up the sound. I don’t play hardrock, but if you have ever heard the first Van Halen album, listen to it again and pay attention to the subtle delay on songs like “On Fire” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Love”. Especially “On Fire”…., you never really notice the delay as you would on lots of other songs, but if you play Eddie’s guitar parts and you don’t use that subtle delay, it just doesn’t sound right. Of course Eddie used an old tape delay, so something like the El Capastan or the Volante may seem more appropriate for this stuff, but I don’t know…, I think the Brigadier just sounds more genuine and especially more pleasing to me. The other two Strymon pedals I use are (1) the DIG (all of them are the latest versions of these pedals), but I actually don’t use it that much. Sounds good, but I just don’t need it as often as I thought I would. And (2) the Cloudburst. When this pedal came out and I heard the orchestral sounds it can create, I knew it would completely change the way I wanted to record the songs I wrote. It blew me away. In demo videos I’ve only heard people exploring this pedal and when they come to the interesting part they hardly ever show the potential of that sound. But if you can get one guitar to sound like an orchestra, without making it too sterile (which is what I like so much about it - it doesn’t sound like a synth pad, it sounds like you’re playing with living entities with brains and hearts), imagine dubbing multiple lines with a bass guitar to ‘mimic’ a section of contra bass, cello and low brass, orchestral like chords, another guitar playing counter melodies and high up there a velvety violin like sound played with an E-Bow, all mixed and balanced well. This sounds a hundred times better to me than anything you could play using synths with real orchestral sounds. I could find amazingly good alternatives for every Strymon pedal on the market, but I haven’t heard anything (yet) that can do that Cloudburst thing. If there’s one pedal I would absolutely LOVE to have, it would be the NightSky. I haven’t heard a lot of it yet, but WHAT I heard was absolutely amazing, so that one’s high up my list. The one pedal that was good when it came out, especially for the things that both you and I use it for, but lost its position against its competitors drastically in my opinion, is the Iridium. I’ve always played and loved AC30’s, but I never heard anything that sounded even close to an old AC30. I was just about to purchase the Iridium, although there were some good competitors (I particularly liked the more ‘organic’ sound of the Simplifier) when all of a sudden UAFX brought out the Ruby (AC30), the Dream (‘65 Deluxe Reverb) and the Woodrow (‘55 Fender Tweed amp). I didn’t hesitate and bought the Ruby. Purely coincidental I bought the Dream last week, 2nd hand for €250. The level of detail is mind boggling. Especially the Dream. I never regretted this decision. They recently added a Dumble style amp to this line. I believe they have six amp types now. Of course only a handful of people have actually played a real Dumble amp and the ones who have don’t need a pedal-amp like this. So nobody knows for sure if it truly sounds, plays and reacts like a Dumble. But it sounds absolutely gorgeous. And specifically for this one they added the possibility to tweak its sound fully to your liking. Anyway, I think you made it perfectly clear that you’re happy with what you have. Still, if you can find a way to try the Dream for a week, then do it. I think you will like it a lot. Thanks for the video. I had a fun time watching it. 😊🧡

@@CyberattackWorld bro I love your content! I love Strymon pedals but that Mobius is too big to me to not be able to do two mods at once! Lol. So I have a Fender clean on the bypass, mArshall dirty in the fav button, a Vox clean and dirty and Marshall clean access via the footswitch. I will be running the ultra violet, Zelzah, Orbit and Sunset into the Iridium. I will probably use the Keeley Caverns or Sonicake Levitate post Iridium for my delay and reverb needs. I’m waiting on Strymon to do a dual delay/ reverb in a small footprint ala Nux Atlantic or Keeley Caverns style. You can also mix LFO and Feedback settings to get a nice phasey sound or a thicker sound, etc. You can find Orbits now for like 150 so I think they're worth it for someone looking for a good flanger. Interesting video! I think you should give the Riverside another chance if you find one used, because it pairs well with the Iridium, and is versatile enough to be your only drive pedal. It's not going to do anything crazy though. Compadre is great too, but it's more of a utility pedal where it just does its thing but is not exciting in any way. For me, the Nightsky got sold because I felt it was too much for what I wanted out of a reverb. Flint V2 is on its way out because I find the SA Collider sounds better and don't need the tremolo that much. Volante is still my favorite Strymon, with El Cap V2 and Deco V2 close behind.

Big fan! I had the iridium for 3 years as my everything pedal and I eventually did desire a “better” amp modeler because I play in a band with someone using a UA dream and it was actually difficult to compete in the mix. I switched to a Tonex one and have had a MUCH better time in that context. Idk what it is, but there’s something about the iridium that sounds good in isolation and is fine if you can mix it in post, but just doesn’t have the same top end bite as many other amp sim pedals. The Tonex Ones are cheap enough I recommend grabbing one and downloading some free sample captures and seeing what you think.

I’ve had the Iridium since it came out. I have “better” modelers now, but the Iridium has consistently stayed on my big board. I know it sounds weird (and I know I’m not alone in this) but that headphone jack makes everything sound glorious. With that said, I think the chime setting is the only decent one. I’ve never tried the ToneX but I’ve heard good things

Use the EQ in your mixing console. There are EQ knobs in the mixing console for a reason.
@souljer0
@souljer0 4 күн бұрын
@@waltuhhimself Of course eq is there for a reason, but if I could just improve the signal coming in, why wouldn’t I just do that? Improving the signal coming in makes even MORE mixing sense than using the eq, smartass

I'd really appreciate it if you could do something for me. Right now, Strymon has a time-limited demo for their new El Cap VST. I generally hate working in the box, but one thing I noticed is that the VST version has a three-head mode, which makes my OCD brain go haywire. My ask is if you could try out the VST, and tell me if you miss the three-head mode going back to the physical version. In general, the UI on the VST seems legitimately slick in the way that PC interfaces can when they are done properly. They could get close if they added an OLED, but now we're in what if land.

Killer that you dig the Iridium so much! I'm pushing 30, and ever since I was a kid I dreamed of getting a tube amp. I made my dream come true in my early twenties by purchasing a twin reverb for $1,500 and paying it off over 5 years. Never in my LIFE did I think that modelers would become so good - and that I would use them so much. I got the Dream '65 but I swapped over to the Lion '68, all while my amp sits in storage. For a modern guitarist, it genuinely makes so much sense to just invest in nice studio monitors and commit to a modeling pedal. I love my tone and the consistency - and I haven't looked back.

Any chance you'd consider doing a video of how you use the iridium?
@CyberattackWorld
@CyberattackWorld 5 күн бұрын
yes, but I don't know how interesting it would be. I'm not really pushing it into unusual territory or doing any of my usual cyber whatever stuff. In general I prefer the Marshall amp and the Vox amp over the Fender amp. Also don't overlook that the Marshall amp can have a good clean tone with the drive knob at like 9 or 10 o'clock. These days usually I leave the room knob on zero, and instead I'll run the Iridium into a stereo reverb with a touch of room-style reverb before recording. That's 99% of my tricks.

Glad you talked about the tremolo in the Mobius, I've always wondered and I haven't seen anyone talk extensively about using it until now. Big trem fan/user here. Also glad you're talking about the Keeley Dark Side, I think it's slept on just bc it's technically a multi-effect. Thinking of picking up an El Cap v1 or a Flint if I can find one for a good price used.

Have you experimented with 3rd party IRs with the Iridium, or have you always run stock? York has a bass cab IR that let's me get fat bass tones. Great for either a real bass or when I use the C4 for synth bass.

Love your channel, the best gear head on youtube in my opinion. i don’t really like Strymon personally. But the one pedal i do like you didn’t review…OB.1. Because i don’t like Strymon i’m gonna say it’s an Ultra Tier because it overcame my brand prejudice on performance alone. That’s pretty impressive since aesthetics usually dominate my product purchases unless i’m searching for a specific effect. It’s a sleeper pedal in the Strymon range. And it shows how most youtube guys just buy what everyone else does. Luckily my friend’s a corporate touring professional. And he had this pedal, only guy i’ve ever seen use it. It’s got a great feel. Replaced both the BBE clean boost and compressor he was using for years. Clean Boost is the gem that most youtubers havent discovered yet. Pick one up before they become impossible to find.

Thanks for the comment. The only reason I didn't mention the OB-1 is that my understanding is the Compadre is meant to have replaced it (but I've never played the Compadre either).
