The Studio Rats 2022 Studio Tour.

Every year I do a mini tour of my home studio where I film the bulk of the content that goes out on The Studio Rats KZbin channel.
As James was over today (Thursday 28 July 2022) we decided to film the mini tour.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

Such a great insight and thank you for doing this. I am surprised as I thought you would have loads of guitars. But it shows you have several key decent guitars and they all fufill a purpose. Not like some of us GAS nerds who may have 10 to 20 cheap low to medium quality guitars. 😆

I don’t think you need hair to play in a hair metal situation these days. You’re quite good, that’s all that matters. I have a PT Sig in ocean turquoise as well, that’s a nice guitar and sounds great for all kinds of styles. The Satin finished neck, dark like it is, so unique. It appears James has set you up with a few key ingredients and by the looks of it is just what you need to make first class recordings. I’ve watched with joy every time I see you do a video, it’s a pleasure. The AxeFX3 units are more than capable for everything as well, so you have unlimited options. A good place to be. Very nice…! I’m traveling right now with a virtual studio: iPad equipped with loads of software (THU, ToneStack,BiasAmp, SampleTank,AmpliTube, MidiGuitar - allowing to play all kinds of MIDI driven instruments w/o any converter) and an HSH guitar I’ve built before hitting the road. It’s a great and light outfit allowing to simulate a brick and mortar studio with more than acceptable quality results. The suited solution for the musician on the go. Cheers guys !

This video is 6 months old so I don't know if you're still following comments. But I didn't think to ask during yesterday's live questions. Anyway, I'm starting to design a backyard shed studio myself. It's much smaller than this one, about 8x12 feet. I plan to record my guitars out the back of my Katana 100 head, use software to create drums and plug a bass into my little Yamaha AG-06 interface. For vocals and harmonica, I have a good old SM-58 and a Sennheiser e945 and I may try an amp sim pedal to add some dirt to the harmonica. I also have a Digitech Trio+ pedal I can use for making backing tracks. I'm in Texas so a good air conditioner is a must. I'm still looking into monitors but I really don't know enough about them to ask the right questions. Mixing and mastering are likely above my paygrade anyway so anything I can use to hear myself and then pass along to someone that knows what they're doing may be best option. For room treatments someone suggested I use Rockwool insulation and cover it with fabric. That ought to make the room pretty dead, I think. I'm just at the beginning so any advice would be greatly appreciated. And thanks for the videos. Y'all are the best!

Is keeping the 'wooden structure' warm a problem in the winter? My summerhouse is basically unusable in the Grest British Winter. I don't have insulation and given energy price costs now, using an electric heater is out of the question.

Interested in the construction of this studio, as have always wanted to build one. Is it a wooden framed structure? I see you have air-con. Is it well sound insulated? (roof doesn't seem to have any?). What security have you implemented to ensure you don't have all your precious gear stolen? How do you control humidity to prevent condensation, damp and issues with the guitars?

@@TheStudioRats Did the Suhr Pete Thorn take the place of the Studio and DGT for the "do it all" duties? I had been considering those options myself but wound up deciding a 3x P90 setup with the Fishman Fluence Greg Koch was going to be a better option for me. Still not settled on the right axe to throw them into after first trying out an oler Reverend Jetstream 390 with the tune o matic bridge. Thinking of going with the Suhr JM and routing it for a middle P90, but trying out a PRS 305 first and would route that for P90s if I wind up loving it for this kind of platform.

@@TheStudioRats - Wow! You just seemed to love them. But I love that nothing is healed sacred in your studio (my impressions anyways). They’re all just tools, and it’s ok that just come and go from time to time. It certainly confuses my friends, but that’s very much what happens around here. Sorry, thought you said it was a shed. A log cabin..ie no brick etc..easily opened up with a electric jabsaw. I am not being a dick, I was just looking for a wooden construction to build a studio, having seen and been inspired by yours (I have two big gardens doing nothing) and the question of security hit me like a train, I mean sheds are great for strimers, lawnmowers etc, but a couple of 3 grand guitars? I would be investing so much in security, to the point, there would be no point at all.
