This is so great to see! I love Weller in this time of period cause he dares to do something really new which he isn‘t really sure about at that time.

only when you look at these programmes later on in life do you feel they were such amateurish interviews back in the day. But we would have loved it at the time . loved a load of the Style Council songs. They were a great group.

I think English,or British young people are far from politically unaware,certainly then,just they didn’t follow Mr PW and his leftist manifesto at the time. I think Weller was very naive politically (as well as a poor communicator despite being a great songwriter).

yip..and he admitted it himself..he regretted getting into the politics of it all..he's at his best when he lets the music do the talking.

@@nickterrett6613Really? Eton Rifles and Going Underground are two of the best ever “political songs”. The fact The Daily Mail really hated the former was just a bonus. Without their non-party political edge The Jam wouldn’t have been half the band they were!

@@jonteunon2977 Eton Rifles was a nice ditty for the time but long forgotten now. I much prefered the Style Council's breezy summer tunes to his brash wannabe Kinks sound.
@jonteunon2977
@jonteunon2977 Жыл бұрын
@@SmartCookie2022 you’re entitled to your own tastes of course but Eton Rifles is better remembered today than anything by the Style Council! Moreover, while Weller was indeed influenced by the Kinks when in The Jam you picked a song that wasn’t and he was also influenced by among other The Beatles, The Who, The Small Faces, The Clash and as heard on Sound Affects the post punk of Joy Division and Gang of Four. To describe Eton Rifles as either “wannabe Kinks” or for that matter a “ditty” is so wide of the mark as to not even qualify as a caricature! Also it has to be pointed out that The Kinks are one of the best ever bands and more famous than Weller’s second band!
