Nah man I got a 2017 outback 2.5i limited for 20k in 2020. It was originally 34k. -14k in 3 years. Similarly, I got my 2011 legacy for 17k in 2015 and it was originally 31k. So also a 14k loss but over 4 years. Now those same cars are worth about 15k and 5k each. So combined I have lost 2500/year average on my 2 cars or 1250 each car. If you buy slightly used to begin with, any decent car will hold its value quite well. I bought my 2011 Acura TSX V6 in 2013 with 18k miles on it. I paid $23k and the sticker in the glove box said $36k. Still own this car almost 12 years later with 110k miles and it is still worth about $10k. I'm pretty okay with owning an entry-level luxury sedan that has only depreciated about $1000/year.
@AutoEnthusiast8 күн бұрын
That's true, but if I still had my 16 WRX and sold it at today's value it would have depreciated $37 a year.
@uglyandattractive8 күн бұрын
It had already lost it's biggest chunk of value with that 18,000 miles which is why you got it for 23,000. At that stage it will hold it's value longer and only slightly decrease every year. I bought a 2000 Honda civic a few months back for $4000 it had a good body which is why it was worth so much but it is an automatic, the manuals with a good body go for around $5000 to $6000. Mine had 140,000 miles when I bought it. Those cars were only about $18,000 brand new for the ex model. The point is that it depends on the car. The wrx is a desired car just like the older civics. In 24 years, the civic lost about the same amount of value off the sticker price as the tsx did in I'm assuming only 2 years or less if you got it with only 18,000 miles. As the civic gets older, the value will only increase for a good condition one as it becomes more rare. The tsx, although it's an excellent car won't have that same effect and will continue to decrease in time. The wrx is an enthusiast car just like the civic and integra so it's resale value will always be on the higher end

I am not ignoring it, but I don't think we have enough data to push through what appears to be somewhat of a bubble. Honda is playing the game extremely well with volume to demand, and I think we are going to see a big drop. I don't really want to weigh in until we know the magnitude. But we have been trending closer and closer to supply equally demand on them, and so many folks are "holding" them because of their value, and when the supply catches up there will be a dump that will quickly change the outlook. But with all that said, Honda has been extremely good at protecting their customers from this, and they might be able to continue it.
