It doesn't occur to most people outside of India that India is the only classical civilisation that still exists. They can't wrap their heads around the fact that Hinduism is so old that its European contemporaries such as ancient Greek and Roman - and even nearer East such as ancient Mesopotamia or Persia - have long since fallen; their religions are become myths and so they apply the same fallacy to India.
