I think you got the body dysmorphia interpretation spot on. I thought the exact same thing watching that scene with her getting ready for the date. I used to have bad body dysmorphia when I was 18/19 and I recognized my old behavior in that scene immediately. I used to spend a long time staring at myself in the mirror before going out, head towards the door, then feel the compulsion to keep going back to the mirror to stare at my face more and find flaws in it even though everyone else said I looked pretty or fine. Sometimes I'd refuse to leave home because I thought I looked too bad to go out in public and if I managed to go out I'd spend the whole time being paranoid that everyone thought I looked awful and I'd compare myself to everyone I saw. I felt like I could never look good enough and I got obsessed and depressed with my appearance. I remember one night staring at my face angles for ages in the mirror and being convinced I needed jaw surgery to look better. I wouldn't even answer the door to delivery people without makeup on. I'm 32 now and get insecure sometimes but not as intensely thankfully. But to this day I'm careful not to take many selfies or spend too much time on vanity because I dont want to risk becoming like that again. But this film was so good! They really did body dysmorphia justice and the pressures to look a certain way as we get older, and the colour palette, cinematography, etc, all of it was amazing! I'm not a fan of body horror so this was uncomfortable to watch but I'm glad I saw it, 5 star movie for sure

I was really disturbed by this movie. What I got from it is, yes, society is the problem and beauty standard imposed mostly on woman, especially in the industry. But from my perspective it is more of an internal dilemma and self-hate. Sue is all of our voices in our heads, telling us what is supposedly wrong with us, comparing us, telling us to disrespect our bodies in order to be loved and valued. It's a very sad story about losing yourself because you believed you have no value anymore. In the end they became two separate entity because she lost what was her real self, ultimately losing everything. That was, beyond crazy and frightening but very real.

Demi will be 62 in November. That’s just crazy to me to look that good at that age. She served and she needs an Oscar nomination. I SAID THIS WAS A MODERN DAY DEATH BECOMES HER! ppl did not agree with me 🤣 You are so good and picked up on the same themes I did! I work in aesthetics and this reminds me of celebrities like Christina aguliara popping out with seemingly younger, skinner, prettier versions of themselves. However, the person who hated themselves is still there, so there's a constant cycle of chasing a different version of yourself that's better, instead of appreciating who you are and all you've accomplished as you are. Working in plastics made me realize you should never consider fixing the outer self without making your innerself whole. Best movie I've seen this year!

i think it's important to note that Sue is not human, and I believe she's not really conscious when she murdered elisabeth because elisabeth's consciousness is still inside elisabeth, that's why when she died, Sue finally felt the regret and panic like how a real human would feel because elisabeth's consciousness went back to Sue. edit: basically, waking up Sue was useless and a huge mistake because at that point, Sue is still nothing but a piece of meat. I think this is just as much a commentary on the toxic beauty standards of American media as it is about internal addiction to attention and superficial admiration. Elizabeth started the movie addicted. She turned down her admirer until she felt like she wasn’t worth anything else. Her tenure in the industry made her so hungry for the validation of the same men we came to villainize, that’s why she took the substance in the first place. She couldn’t change if she wanted to.

This was an incredible movie theatre experience, I had 3xs. I’m ready to get this blu ray yesterday. The messages in the movie are there if you can read them. The color story is on point. This is a movie for the ages, it transcends gender, time. We only get the one body in our life, be kind to it and don’t cruel to yourself. Half the beauty in the world we covet is artificial, be reasonable, be fair to yourself and make the smart decision as much as you can.
@xejelahАй бұрын
It's interesting how Sue is literally a parasite feasting on Elisabeth's life to perpetuate herself forward. The beauty standard she portrays is actually parasitic. Which makes all those old men parasitic - using her beauty to gain themselves financially, then discarding her once they found her of no further use to them. Neighbor wanted something from her too. Fred was the only one who wanted to bask in her natural beauty, and wanted to connect - the first guy that didn't want to use her is the one she didn't feel she was good enough for. The best things in life are free.

I absolutely love this movie. In my opinion, the mirror scene is the most affective. Of course, I can't relate to what women go through, but as a 36 year old guy, the mirror scene is definitely relatable. Earlier this year, I was going to meet up with some friends who I hadn't seen in a long time. I realized I gained weight, and I was losing a lot of hair. The night I was going to meet them, I tried on different outfits to make myself look slimmer. I combed my hair back, but I was developing a receding hairline. So, everything I was doing with my hair and my clothes weren't working. I was frustrated to the point where I was close to canceling and telling my friends that I was sick and couldn't make it. But I went anyway cause they were expecting me to come. I've already seen the film for the fourth time in the movie theater, and I still love it. Now, it's my favorite movie of 2024, and Demi Moore gives the best performance of the year. I encourage everyone to see it at the movie theater. Don't wait to watch it at home cause you won't get the same experience when you're watching it on TV.

I remember seeing an early screening of this last month. The whole theater was screaming and laughing for the last 20 minutes of the movie. Probably the craziest movie experiences of my life
