Recording technology in 1963 was nothing like this century. But I agree that Spector's "Be My Baby" doesn't do Veronica Bennett any favors.

I made no mention of Ronnie Bennett and the Ronnetts but I think their version is the best because of Phil Spector's arrangement and Ronnie Bennett's voice to be able to sing this type of song. Don't forget Hal Blaine's drums!

@@opaulamorgan4265 - I'm looking at the song from the perspective of recording engineer. Spector's "Be My Baby" is almost two records in one--his "Wall of Sound" accompaniment and Veronica Bennett. She herself said that she did nothing besides contribute her vocal. I don't know what Bennett would have sounded like with a modern condenser mic and pre-amp and a little reverb and delay and a low-pass filter, etc. in the present-day, but on this record, her voice sounds weak and untrained. Bennett said that she trained her voice in the studio's ladies room; Spector should have run her voice through a reverb unit, at the least.

Appropriately done! A nice rendition wkthout out trying to out Roni, Roni Spector. Somebody had their cabeza in gear to put this together. The Singer has the pipe to emulate, not inflate, Roni's voice and sound! And, great harmonies Guys!

so,,,,my Nephew had a band that went from The Bay Area to CBGBs and released an EP and a full album, starting '02 or so. Some legal hassle with 'this' stopped that... Oh, his Mom, total girl group fan. Nephew, I took him to see Ozzy, VH and IM. This sorta pisses me off, sadly.

This is a great modern rendition - One piece of advice to the engineer though is to set the drummer's volume higher. The drums (Hal Blaine) is a significant part of this particular Ronetts song. Thank you for recording the song live.
