Eric Clapton admitted in an interview that he didn't like rockabilly music associated with Carl Perkins. It was not until he met Harrison during the Second Beatles Christmas Show in 1964 that he came to appreciate the likes of Carl Perkins. At the same time Clapton widened Harrison's interest in Blues music.

So to see George smile in a performance,he really loved Carl and his music. You hear a big Carl Perkins influence in his guitar playing,especially in the. old days. His lead in "Roll over Beethoven" was Chuck berry filtered through Carl Perkins.
