Line 1 Yonge-University is a route on the Toronto subway in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is operated by the Toronto Transit Commission, has 38 stations and is 38.8 km (24.1 mi) in length, making it the longest line on the subway system. It opened as the "Yonge subway" in 1954 as Canada's first underground passenger rail line, and was extended multiple times between 1963 and 2017. Averaging over 736,000 riders per weekday, Line 1 is the busiest rapid transit line in Canada, and one of the busiest lines in North America.

The line is solely operated with the TTC's newer Toronto Rocket (TR) subway trains, which are based on Bombardier's Movia family of trains. ~Wikipedia

This line was recently extended northwards by a number of stations leaving the city for the first time. There is talk of extending the eastern leg of line 1 from Finch Avenue to Highway 7/Langstaff Road in Thornhill. The system resembles parts of the IND/BMT aspects of the New York Subway as its system was studied by the TTC. The cars were built in Canada by Bombardier who used the basic design and dimensions of the TTC cars for a number or MTA cars in New York.

TTC and the STM are the the best systems in North America. Say what you will, but you won't wait past 5 minutes for the Subway or Street car. Try that in the Chicago.

Nah. Vancouver is the best with automatic trains! Sadly I have to wait 5~10mins for BART train in the Bay Area

The Metropolis I've watched many you tube videos on the Skytrain. It's looks like a good system, but it looks to me like a Light rail system. Also, BART is not safe.

@@josephmuglia976 Technically it does fit the definition of "heavy rail metro", although the trains aren't that big. Also I wouldn't consider a single metro system in the US as good as Canadian/ European/ Asian systems. Although BART is not doing too bad compared to most US systems.

Timosha21, you missed an opportunity for good film footage by not filming the interior of a TR train on Line 1 going north between Dupont and Eglinton West. The twists and turns are amazing to behold as the train moves through the tunnel. I enjoyed your film footage of Line 2 and the streetcar system. But dammit, you missed the bendiest part of the Toronto subway, and also did not film between Castle Frank and Broadview. Between those stations, the train goes over a highway underneath a bridge at a height of 15 storeys.

Being from Montreal, I really like Toronto. But the subway is annoying in the way the metal wheels rub the metal rails. So annoying sound to me, where here the subway rolls on tires, which eliminates that annoying sound. But besides that, I really like the TTC subway. How it goes outside and all.

Honestly, I'm so used to the sounds, that I can't imagine riding in a subway without them. Whenever I do I just feel hollow inside.

@@mrrobot5963 Its mostly underground, there are only a few times it goes overground, that being Scarborough RT which is an above grade medium train (however it will be demolished soon), and there's a portion of the subway that travels along the median of the highway Allen Road which is actually pretty cool. There are a few other times it goes overground bet its never longer than 500m.

I thought the Montreal metro would be more silent but I found the cars smaller and more loud than the Toronto trains. Even the NEW trains in Montreal had no AC. Horrible on hot days. (Montreal as a city however is much nice looking however)

Montreal's fleets are more powerful and have air vents hence their sounding just as loud, although neither screeching on the mildest of bends nor squealing when halting.
