Nordy here. Thanks again for the feature :) it’s always so fascinating to watch you solve a puzzle. Aside from the small Sudoku detour in the middle (which wasn’t a waste because it made the endgame easier), you actually found an even smoother solve path than I did while testing. I just love that-you think you have something nailed down air tight, and someone comes along with a new idea to shift your whole paradigm. I imagine many setters have had that same experience while watching this channel. Cheers!

So frustrating seeing Simon keep shying away from the 2/4 sandwich row like it was a hot stove when there was a quick easy win there if he'd just look at it for a moment, namely the 1 in box 7 has to go in row 9, because 2/4 needs to be a one-cell sandwich, which would have huge impact on the remaining 1s and 9s in the grid (He got to it eventually but could have had it so much earlier)
@pelahnar42 жыл бұрын
right? even as he said "I hope I don't have to look at this row in depth" there was already the 9 in box 7 dictating all the logic that follows

When considering the sandwich in C9, first you asked if the tip of the line could be 1, when there's a 19 pair in the box. The real problem was that you hadn't realised that the 23s on the line had to be different, because the one in the border was the same as R6C8. This ruled out 7 from R5C9. The 8 forced the sandwich to go downwards from R6C9, and had to take two cells, so there was a 19 in the corner. You went to great lengths to show that R6C4 couldn't be a 1, using maths and sandwich logic, but there was a 19 pair in the row. You could be looking at a class action from all the people with flattened noses from continual facepalming. You missed so many things in this, often because of your inability to either use your pencil-marks, or update them after making a deduction. Sometimes, it was just that you didn't really think about what you were doing, for example, when the border clue in R8 was 24, you looked at the 1 pencil-marked in R8C1, but somehow failed to realise it couldn't possibly be the 1. This puzzle really wasn't that hard, but it was very enjoyable.
@stevieinselby2 жыл бұрын
I got confused to start with because I thought that *all* rows and columns had to have sandwich sums that were single digits, and that broke the puzzle. Then restarting once I understood the rules, it went much better! I took a different route to disambiguating the polarity of the first row - 1 and 9 obviously can't be adjacent to each other, but nor can they be a single digit apart, because that would make them the same polarity. So they must have one high number and one low number between them, with those two numbers adding up to a single-digit total, which has to be 2+7=9, fixing the sum on the left-hand whisper line as "high".
@stevieinselby2 жыл бұрын

This was a nice puzzle, once I was able to understand the rules. I believe the rules should be re-worded for better clarity, because I was quite confused going into it. It says "each of the ten cells outside the 9x9 grid" without saying which ten cells. It would be clearer if it said "each of the ten cells outside the 9x9 grid that is on a green line." Also, the use of the word "inclusive" threw me; I initially read that to mean that *every* digit from 1 to 9 must be outside the grid. (Which I quickly realized was impossible, since 1 can't be out there) I think it would be clearer if you simply remove the word "inclusive." If these two changes were made to the wording of the rules, I think it would help people avoid the confusion that I experienced trying to solve this. As it is, I had to check the video to see how Simon did it to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, which I generally don't like doing before I've had a chance to take a "crack" at it. :)
