Do you remember what kind of snare you were using around this time? Always loved the sound of it on DbD specifically
@DerekGrantMusic5 ай бұрын
@crimsonpunx It would have been a 6"x14" DW Edge brass/maple snare on both this recording and the album (although we probably used several snares for the session). Top head tuned up super tight, bottom a little less-so. Probably Remo Emperor - maybe with a dot.

Sweet. The SM files is back! Thanks, Derek! I remember when all the ska purists hated the 3rd wave skapunk bands, which was weird because they liked the two tone bands. 🤷 Is that what they didnt like here?

@Employee00765 That was the general vibe. This Boston Globe review of the show says it all: bit.ly/96avalonreview

@DerekGrantMusic I feel like if you can't even get the band's name correct, your opinion isn't worth much.

Did you ever play any OCDP kits Derek?
@DerekGrantMusic5 ай бұрын
@supa_hot_ice5449 Probably once or twice as rental gear or backline for a fly-in date or festival. I had a falling out with DW when I left the Suicide Machines that left me disillusioned and suspicious of the motives of drum companies. I refused to play DWs or any newer drums for that matter, I literally walked into a strip-mall music store and asked if they had a used kit that I could set on fire without worrying about the loss. For the next few years I only played beat up kits or kits borrowed from other bands. That all changed around 2002 when I met Bill Cardwell and his son Jake from C&C Drums, they restored my faith in drum companies and we've worked together ever since. Great people. Great drums.

@@DerekGrantMusic Ah I see, that’s really interesting. Never heard of the two people you mentioned, are they affiliated with C&C drums?
@DerekGrantMusic5 ай бұрын
@supa_hot_ice5449 Sorry, I should have mentioned that Bill Cardwell founded C&C Drums, he and Jake have made every one of my kits since 2002.

@@DerekGrantMusic that’s awesome. Big fan of you’re drumming by the way, been trying to learn your tracks. Settle for satin, fall victim, and prevent this tragedy are big ones for me.

@@DerekGrantMusic also, one more question, have you ever met Chad Sexton or any of the members of 311?
