Why is nobody talking about how immoral this show is? I watched the whole thing cuz I was bored and researched what happens in the books and I’m shocked. Belly just jumps from one brother to the other, dates, kisses and sleeps with both and everybody acts like it’s normal? It’s weird and gross, not to mention they grew up like family, she is ruining the relationship between two brothers, she’s so selfish and out of touch. This love triangle is worse than Twilight, at least there Edward and Jacob weren’t related and Bella didn’t casually sleep with Jacob too.

The clip with Cam and his fascination with ocean life finally made me realize why I desperately couldn’t connect with this show. It's bc the main love interests have no interesting/humane qualities about them whatsoever. They're so surface level that its difficult to actually root for them being with Belly whenever they get those alone time moments with her. Even Jeremiah's character who's supposedly the fun guy/life of the party is just watered down to that sole character trait. He has no aspirations after that (at least in sn 1). It makes the intimate scenes feel extremely stale.
@SteampunkHorse4 ай бұрын
Honestly this comment alone is an amazing analysis. It’s like people are afraid to give their characters interesting traits like that when really it makes them more realistic, relatable and three-dimensional. Side note, that’s part of the reason why I get so pissed when people say having lgbt+ or racially diverse characters in media is “forced diversity” bc it adds nothing to the plot. Like hello, it’s just having different characters that you’d find in real life - Hermione having buck teeth doesn’t do shit for the plot of Harry Potter except making her realistic because she’s 11 years old. But I digress.

Along with other issues and topics. And what the heck was that ball? 🤦🏻♀️ That just dragged it down further They spent so much time on that ball that they completely disregarded the fact that these characters need brains 🤦🏻♀️ Again .... I think it's largely a wish fulfillment show for girls who feel unpretty. A middle schooler I've worked with became kinda obsessed with the title alone. She is really drawn to this idea of suddenly being percieved as beautiful and wanted. For the record that middle schooler is adorable, but those are years where people feel very awkward, regardless of how they look.

The best part of the show for me was definitely the relationship between the mothers. If you’ve seen the show you know it’s fairly developed, at least more than the teens personalities.
@shitmandood Жыл бұрын
Not really. They’re not acting like mothers at all. Single mothers not looking after their kids, while the kids are running around trying to fuck each other. With one of the Mom’s having cancer, I was shocked to see her drinking and it being encouraged by her buddy, and the kids, none of them give a shit about her cancer. Even the Mom’s are too busy trying to screw. There’s a razor thin line to this becoming a raunchy porn or a let’s “Blame it on Rio” situation.

Honestly, I can't believe this show. 1. Cam is a champ! this guy is good looking, has an actual passion that he is capable of talking about, he knows what he wants to do in the future... He's awesome! 2. Conrad is just ridiculous. This boy's reaction time is slower than my mom's 10 years old laptop and let me tell you... It was SLOW. 3. The ending. What the heck?! I'm gonna be honest, I was 100% prepared for the reveal that Conrad locked Jeremiah in a closet or something. The fact that he was out there having a breakdown over those news and she picked his brother, because "Oh my, he was here to dance with me!"... Like, girl. If the boy who has been there for you all this time suddenly goes missing during an important moment, doesn't that alarm you? I would think that she would be at least a little bit concerned and go looking for him. She's awful! She let go of one great & one good guy... For a guy who acts like Edward Cullen. Smh.
@Astrocam886 ай бұрын
Literally, right?? She knew that Jeremiah wouldn't have missed this dance with her unless something important had come up. It drove me insane how quickly she would switch between both of them, leading me to believe she actually enjoyed the attention from both of them. If she felt so strongly for Conrad from the beginning, she would have turned Jeremiah down. Or, if she was tired of waiting for Conrad, she would have gone with Jeremiah. OR, better yet, get out of that damn love triangle and go find someone else. I also was in love with my guy best friend in high school and for many years after, but guess what, we're both with other people now. It's possible to move on from those feelings you have for someone when you're young. I get being a teenager can be confusing, but like. At some point she stops being a victim of "Who should I pick??" and starts being a manipulator because she damn well knows they'll drop it all and run to her if she needs them.

If only it was common for tv shows to take such rational route. Although I hear the show veered slightly off from the books (ex: I hear Belly is much more likeable in the show vs. the books) I seriously doubt they'd go through this route because of just how the author portrayed the books. They were made around 2009-2011; the peak Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, and Gossip Girl era. Eveyrthing was tropey and romanticized the idea of having a lover rather focusing on internal character development within the main protagonist(s). It's always drama over growth everytime.

the reason i loved the show, was because it created this feeling of nostalgia. like summers you've never really had yourself, like going to these fancy houses for the summer. but the FEELING of summer and the adventures of a teenage girl, is something i remember very well. though i relate most to the moms for some reason 😄 the summer is a character in it self. the house is a character. i think the story of two brothers and their friend having a threesome drama, is really odd. i think it's so cliché how girls always fall for the silent bruiting type in these stories. who wouldn't pick Jeremiah if they even had half a brain? the story of the women being there for each other and knowing it will be the last summer for one of them, is truly what made this show for me. it's so sad. the kids are kids and the grownups are just dealing with the heaviest of topics. i really hope they don't fluff over her death next season. you don't just get over your parent dying. and yet, it looks like s2 will still just focus on the love triangle..... sigh

*yes!!* and they literally treat it like it's more important. I understand that it's from Belly's perspective, but they could've done it better than dismissing her best friend's mom's death!

Listen; this is gonna sound so stupid but you saying that 'throw away' line of "it didnt happen for me until 32" really did something for me today. I am 27 and the guy I wanted to marry just broke up with me and it feels like the world is ending - but yeah, you saying that juet really fucking helped, thank you ❤

I'm not concerned she didn't recognize the infinity symbol; I'm concerned he didn't give her more syrup.
