Rishi Sunak's wife is a shareholder in Indian tech firm Infosys. His father-in-law is the founder and chairman of the company.
Business is good for Infosys. After years of fulfilling small government contracts worth less than £70 million combined, they've been put on a list of approved suppliers for contracts worth around £750 MILLION.
Investigative journalist Peter Geoghegan broke the story, and swung by JOE Towers to give us the full rundown of events.

It's great because it's coming to light right now, just so that by November when the GE happens it will have finally filtered through to the thickest floating voters in the most important marginals ... But it simply does not in fact qualify as corruption for the simple reason that at no point is there any suggestion that Sunak sits on any of these boards or panels which are actually awarding the contracts. It qualifies as unbelievably pathetic, incompetent to the point of corruption perhaps, that MPs' spouses' financial and other interests do not have to be declared in the Members' Interests Register. But that's just the consequence of standard Palace of Westminster sh'tness and slowness. The same reason the HMRC website is complete dysfunctional crap which a 12-year-old programmer could have written better.

It's not really that they're crap, is that the editors are not allowed to publish these kind of things because Daddy Murdoch on high won't let them. There's a reason these kinds of stories usually come from independent journalists (or journalists that do work for these papers publishing it independently).

It's the 'beigeification' of industries. We've been led to believe that one achieves based on one's merit which, in journalism, was always the case. It used to be an industry full of diverse backgrounds, especially the working class. However, as the disparity between the rich and poor has widened over, yes, specifically the last 40 years, those only in the middle economic brackets can move into positions of semi-power. Journalism these days is full of those whose parents afforded them the privilege of un-paid internships which has meant a loss of diversity of thinking but also a loss of actual merit. The 60s and 70s were a blossoming of civil rights that were put in place by politicians with a moral conscience who were not in the game for personal greed but were, instead, aware of the importance for a nation's heath for all its citizens to live in decent conditions so that everyone had a chance of fulfilling their life's purpose. For the last 40 years our rights have been lost at a rate of knots and those that can afford to move into positions of semi-power have become homogenised resulting in the society we see today - that of greed and corruption, with neither checks nor balance and a narrowing of thought. What is to be done?

Legacy media are all Oxbridge or wannabe yuppies whose purpose is to toe the govt establishment line. Journalists like Peter Geoghegan don't have reach for a reason and they have no power to hold these that we are questioning to account. Hold them account how? At the heart if it, they have not broken the law because 'our' law is written by those that govern over us and we no longer have the calibre of politicians in the country any longer who do bring this topic up for debate for reform. Who do you suggest voting for to change this? Control-freakery is off the chart these days. If it's not illegal, why would it change? If those in positions of power profit in this way, why would any of them change the structure of our legal system?

If all this money ends up in India and back in the hands of the common folks to improve the country’s situation where most people live under $2 @ day. It’s not too bad. @EdJames-tb9oz
@EdJames-tb9oz 6 ай бұрын
It probably will come up in a PMQs but it will need to be timed well. As will a bunch of other massively damaging ones. None of the opposition questions ever have a specific time frame to ask they are chosen for strategic benefit. Sometimes a story breaks in the media and they go that route but others are held for key times. If the opposition go for the Sunaks government corruption and theft now it will outrage the public for a few weeks but if the election is in next January 2025 the public will forget (well enough of the public). The Opposition questions are posed to inflict maximum damage to the incumbent or to reinforce a narrative. This particular topic can derail the whole Infosys/India trade deal for months. It would be better to hit Sunak with this when he commits to a firm date of the election giving him no time to bury the scandal succinctly.

@Discombobulate453 so you're saying we should keep the current government in place despite knowing they are literally ALL criminals to a man because there's a chance the next lot might not be great? After 14 years of driving people into the ground, killing 100,000s through forced impoverishment, taking backhanders for helping corporations rob the population blind, creating division using racial tropes and pushing us to the brink of civil war just to distract you from the fact its them hurting everyone...after all this, not even mentioning the ongoing national suicide that is Brexit, you STILL think Starmer is the boogie man? You are precisely the reason why this country will never recover. I'm fortunate, I work in financial services and have done well for myself. I don't struggle with my bills and consider myself extremely lucky. The Tories, technically, are better for me financially. That doesn't mean it's OK to forget about my fellow citizens. People who already had nothing, are losing even more now. This is a pathetic government, most of whom belong in jail. If you can't see that, you're the reason I think there should be a basic intelligence test to be allowed to vote.

It's not right to hate the rich for being rich. It's not right to envy the Rich. It's absolutely right to acknowledge, and to keep saying, that the rich cannot be trusted to balance society for everybody. They have proven beyond all reasonable doubt that they can only be trusted to increase the wealth disparity within our great society. This needs to change not because I hate rich self servants. But because I wish to see more people within society reach their great potential. We all win from a society which is more balanced. An so nobody has to be seen to suffer by design.

How old are you though because as a teacher, I've never seen so many young people who obsess over monetary wealth, status and style over substance. Everything is image these days which is based on the animal nature of desire and greed. Some of us thought that we were evolving to relinquish such 'ideals' however we seem to be going backwards. The reason I asked you your generation bracket is because the older of us grew up in a world where image, brand and ads weren't as insidious in society as they are now@@GG-hu9dn

Have a look into the school for 'wayward' boys in Northern Ireland and Mount Batten & his cohort including the psychiatrist employed there then, look at said Doc in relation to a boat called Azimuth in Cornwall where boys would sail across the channel organised by your namesake's cohort. Corruption and Crooked. Just like the MOD a few years back were exposed for paying £11.00 each for light bulbs. The same bulbs could be bought for a £1.00 each anywhere. So who owns the company supplying them, who chose them, who signed off on such a waste of public money? This has been going on for years.

Honestly, this has all been happening behind closed doors since Dutch Shell advertised their intent to sell their equity in the gas field off Gaza which happened years ago. You can't help but wonder what deals have been going on behind closed doors for all of this to come to pass they way that it has. Yes, 'business is business' but there is something seriously underhand with what is happening in the Holy Land and the 7th of Oct was not the full story. What a ghastly aspect of the world we live in - some people are filled with filthy greed and corruption
