I hunt out near where that was filmed south of the canyon and within sight of Mount McKenzie. It was once an almost untouched beautiful until the windmills and power lines came. They ruined the landscape and their blinking red lights disturbing the stars. It's just uncivilized. I still have 25 years of memories of time spent around a camp fire listening to the serenade sung by the coyotes and the winking stars smiling down. We still sit around the same campfire and remind each other of what once was. This was a great movie and I'm glad I found it here.

Needles to say, that he did a stupendous job. Thanks for letting us share in your love of the only thing on TV worth watching. Then and now . God Bless!

When in the Navy in 1964 I was in Rome and went to the Hilton Hotel with a couple of my friends. While having a drink at the bar the hotel manager asked us if we would like to go to a party in the penthouse. Naturally we all said sure. Well, when we got there we were greeted by a very nice man who introduced himself as John Barrymore Jr. and he talked with the three of us for quite some time. The party was given be a rich oil man from Texas. There were some movie stars there including Charlton Heston, Shirley McClain, etc. John invited us back the next day to go swimming in the pool with himself and Ursula Andress but we were scheduled to tour the Vatican. I will always regret missing the chance to go swimming with Ursula. I must say that John Barrymore Jr. was a very gracious and kind man to have taken three sailors, far from home, and made us feel so welcome. I will never forget it.

Unique plot in which no one was really the good guy. And the ostensible hero was likely the flattest character. Preston in what might have been one of his best roles - a total rogue, rebel, maniac, crooner, romantic, cold-blooded killer, and more. I never knew what the hell he was gonna' do next! A choice role really, and he nailed it. A real pleasure to watch, thanks.

This is a bit of a gem, ahead of its time. What's a bit unusual to me here is the Wichita character wasn't just the common thug, he looks like he knows how to herd cattle and operate a ranch too. Whether or not that mix is a true representation of anything, it sure isn't common in this genre. Usually, the guys with the guns don't mix with the cattle. Yeah the poured concrete porch is an unfortunate moment, but when has Texas itself ever been featured so prominently, the entire film shot there. I'll take that porch over the more authentic soundstage in the Universal backlot I've seen so many times before.

Way, way above average for a fifties western: great locations, grimly realistic story, plenty of thoroughly cliche characters (mandatory), and even adequate acting. For a genre which has been done so badly so many times for so long, this instead is a good example of how it ought to be done.

You say hundreds, then are they all western movies or a mix of several great movies. I pretty much only watch western movies. I am pushing hard to get seventy five this year, so am only interested in the western genre movies. I more or less started in a saddle as a kid packing for the US geological service. I packed over sixty miles back in the hills stocking out posts for the food and blankets needed by surveyors. Kind of sad cause those were fine built buildings, yet they burnt them down cause of liability insurance issues. That was in the late fifties and early sixties. Like I said, grew up setting on a horse leading a pack string, sometimes over sixty horses and packs on most all of them. That was for the Ross dam in upper cascade mountains... washington state, about sixty miles south of canada. I can tell some stories about stuff we packed in and things we went back and packed out. We were still a great country, not confused on who to vote for, now politicians have us scared. I figure the answer is in the bible like the ending of most things

Robert Preston always had a good voice -- that's why he ended up playing in "The Music Man." There were so many crimes committed by every one in this movie, it took a totally rotten character played by Robert Preston to be king of the mountain. They were rustling form each other; killing each other; the whole cast could practically go to prison.
