Yea I love the A2 flash hider. I use it on most of my builds cuz well... I readily don't want to spend $100 on a muzzle device. Rather save the money for other upgrades or ammo

I built my AR using a pencil barrel and a Faxon .620" flash hider, and it looks like a black toothpick coming out of the handguard lol

Flash hider? They don't hide the flash very well, but they do compensate muzzle jump. Maybe that's why they're called compensators.

@Steve Johnson Every Drill Instructor aboard MCRD San Diego and Parris Island calls it a compensator, every grunt in the Fleet Marine Force calls it a compensator, in fact no one I've ever met or served with in the military calls it a compensator. That's because it IS a compensator. In fact it's not a good idea to call it a flash hider in the presense of a DI. A flash hider is to prevent night blindness (assuming you can see what you're shooting at night without optics). The civilian Colt AR's owners manual does name it a flash hider if that helps. The point is, it sure as hell doesn't hide flashes very well, even with a BFA, but it does compensate 'somewhat' for muzzle jump thus improving accuracy .The M249 SAW I was issued had the same compensator and that thing damn sure doesn't hide any muzzle flash. And yes, I agree "flash hider" sounds way more spooky and ninja for political speak.

@Steve Johnson Don't take my word for it, go look at an infantry handbook or go ask someone that's carried one in the military. As I said, Colt calls it a flash hider on the civilian models, why I don't know, it certainly doesn't hide any muzzle flash. They are shimmed at the armory to ensure the slots are centered facing up, which ironically directs the flash upward as well. I've never fired that weapon without the compensator so I couldn't determine a drop in accuracy., and although I qualified expert on the range, there aren't too many rifle less accurate than I am.
