Now it seems like a lot of theaters are part of chains throughout the country (or at least a decently sized portion of it) so it's fairly common to see the same movies everywhere, but it used to be more independent per theater, so I imagine that had something to do with it. Was probably more expensive to get the rights to play them, so they weren't as common at your, and I cannot emphasize the quotes enough, """mom and pop""" theaters. Of course, I could have this backward and anime movies were dirt cheap to get the rights to show and were only really at """mom and pop""" theaters because the chains and bigger names didn't care to be bothered with a cheap movie they didn't think people are going to watch. It's so weird going from watching anime on Toonami at 3am to buying SAO merch at Walmart. Like, this used to be a thing that not many people knew about.
