Rewriting the entire script, redesigning new character arcs, adding new lore, and only using select scenes from the original (60 10-20 minute episodes for DBZA vs DBZ’s 194 20 minute episodes for the sagas they covered) is far from what I’d consider stealing. And, as literally every single episode of DBZA says at the beginning, their work of PARODY falls under the US’s fair use copyright law.

Chris is in a high enough position at Funimation to have the privilege of not giving a shit what Toei thinks hence this scene here. He's in charge of casting for many Funimation dubs, Toei can't tell him who to cast but they can pull scenes from broadcasting. He even cast them under aliases in the hopes of getting it onto TV before they realized but somebody at Funimation snitched and the scene was pulled. Sabat got the last laugh though. Lanipator's Krillin voice saying to buy their merch got past the Toei censors.

However Cris Sabat (Piccolo, Vegeta and many others) and Kyle Hebert (Adult Gohan) have been said to have voiced some minor characters in the abridged series. Sabat did the narrator in the android 13 movie, and Hebert supposedly voiced Santa in plan to erradicate christmas. The funimation cast does have a nice relationship with TFS even though they kind of have to keep it lowkey.
