People struck dumb, visions of hell, supernatural preaching, supernatural provision, immediate answers to prayer, possible exorcism. Reported soberly by Charles G. Finney, evangelist of the Second Great Awakening.

Thank you for posting these stories. We have found such treasures in teaching thru Finneys books. I am now reading thru HOLY Spirit Revivals again this time with my children and some of our church leaders.

Many "scholars" have segregated Finney out into a category of a legalist or something worse, perhaps even a showman like evangelist Billy Sunday. However, if one reads his writings, he was remarkably honest and accurate. He pointed out almost 200 years ago the same problems that weaken and remove the power of the Holy Spirit the Lord meant for the Church to have. He also foresaw the importance of treating people with equality based on their faith, not on their color or sex. Above all, he was brutally honest, as are all of those who are called by God, and the Holy Spirit worked in great power through him to lead many to salvation. I think he's largely remembered in a negative way because of the hatred and vitriol of the Masons, whom he exposed in one of his books late in his ministry. Praise God that He has sent us ministers of truth and power over the years, and for the 19th century, America was given Charles Finney. I for one am thankful so many of his writings and memoirs have been left to us.

I've only read one of this books called "Living for God" but I've read it many times over. Such great wisdom I gleaned as I was going through some very difficult trials. I have no doubts he was a powerful force against Evil.

I heard he was an ex Mason before his conversion....maybe thats why they were so hard on him... Even the town he lived in and helped start a college has tried to erase every aspect of him...that is enough for me to know he was truly a Man of God...for he wasn't loved as so many "so-called greats."

@@internationalsurvivalcounc6980 Thank you for your comments. Finney was a Mason but left his lodge after his conversion. Late in his life, I believe in the 1860's, he published a book revealing their secrets and evil. A book that's very hard to find today. It was after his death the reports of his "legalism/perfectionism" as a theological error came up. It later gained hold in universities teaching Christian history and/or the history of the church on this continent. However, it was clearly driven by the Masons, their money and influence on universities. Of course gnostic groups like the Freemasons hate having the truth of their evil oaths and purposes revealed. Ironically, not long after Finney's conversion, the Masons were outed in a booklet written by a former member, a Captain William Morgan of New York. Morgan was abducted, apparently taken up to Canada and killed by the Masons, but the case brought such negative national attention to the masons and their infiltration of political institutions, that by the time the 1840's rolled around it's reported that 7 out of every 8 newspapers in the country ran a secondary theme on the front page of being "Anti-Masonic". Unfortunately, the masons found safe havens in the south and the English wealth and influence there, and by the end of the Civil War, had found themselves largely restored and accepted. I can't forget to mention that Joseph Smith developed a large portion of "Moronic" (sorry, that was hard to resist) Mormon beliefs through his time in a Masonic temple in Nauvoo, Illinois. Quite a story if you get a chance to read it. English wealth and support of the south and the masons should not be lost to our country's history. The English always looked for a way to recover the "colonies" as many of their royalty still refer to us today. The Freemasons were a convenient way to do just that. I could add in the English infiltration of government through the central bankers and the Wilson Administration leading to the current state of this nations sad predicament, but then that's a tangent far afield of the great teachings and work of Charles Finney. His truths and accomplishments are just as powerful and encouraging today as they were nearly 2 centuries ago. Most of all, we have to believe the Holy Spirit still works in power through His people. We need that, now more than ever. (1 Corinthians 2:4, 4:20, 2 Corinthians 13:10, 2 Timothy 1:7) God bless you!

I love the painting who is the artist of Girl praying?
The testimonies are great but the reading is so fast it's hard to mentally keep up.

I appreciate the feedback, several others have said that I read to fast so It's probably a valid criticism. If it's worth it for now, you can adjust the "playback speed" in KZbin if you click on the video while it's playing, you'll see three dots in the top right. If you click them, you'll get an option for "playback speed" if you click on that, you can select 0.75 speed which would likely make it a more listenable speed for you.
