Unfortunately, Article 3 of the constitution provides that justices “shall hold their office during good behavior.” Which basically means for life. They can be impeached but that has only happened once in 1804. Samuel Chase was impeached but the senate refused to convict.

They know presidents don't have absolute immunity. They take this case on, wait until the last minute to hear it, and then send it back to the lower court. These are stall tactics to help Trump. If he gets elected, he's in the clear for 4 more years. They can then decide that presidents don't have immunity, and it won't affect him.

Surely this is not necessary? Wouldn't it make more sense, for future presidents too, if all they asked was the question: 'Does any President have total criminal immunity or not?' It just sounds as though they are trying to get aspects stricken from the indictment, which is not the place to start. They should be dealing with the more general issues of whether any president needs immunity against prosecution!
