In typical fashion, I kept the spoilers as minimal as possible showing very little story and only showing extensive footage of a single boss. So don't worry about ruining the surprise!

Then dont tell us how the game starts... That is story related. Thanks.

I think Deck13's biggest weaknesses are art design and writing. They made big leaps in terms of technology and gameplay but it's very hard to care about anything when everything looks and feels so bland.

The Surge 1 kinda grew on me eventually. I got it with a humble bundle. Tried it a few times but never hit me, until i installed it two weeks ago and i played it quite a bit more..not alot but still more then before. They did change things but yeah can't alter the level design. This one looks way more interesting, way better looking gears to collect and more open maps. Doubting between this one and Code Vein that will release on friday. Waiting for the reviews of that game to see what game i will get first. Thanks for the review!

It's definitely a ton better. If you liked 1, you'll like this one for sure. I never got into 1, so it took me by surprise to see how much I ended up loving The Surge 2.

@@Jorendo Definitely a good amount of exo-suit gear to mix and match!

@@haasgaming Bought it yesterday. Loving it so far, i'm not even far in the game yet even though i played for hours and hours. Still at the begining collecting all the different exo suit-parts, loving it! It really improved over the first game, i love the new healing way. No longer tied to a set ammount of healing shots, really makes it more fun to explore.

I enjoyed the first game for what it was. The problem I have with both of these games is the story is quite bland. The one thing keeping me going is the combat being fun.

I played a little bit of the first Surge earlier this year when it was free on PlayStation Plus... it was okay, I didn’t love it. Your review of this makes me much more interested in the sequel. Apparently, there is a recap video in The Surge 2 that catches you up on the events of the first one, so you don’t really need to play The Surge 1 before the sequel!
@mac1bc4 жыл бұрын
The recap is really bad. But from what I've seen so far, you still don't have to know much about the first game.

Excellent review, thanks. This game looks awesome, I think I'll get it. Are you really good at every game you've ever played? It sure seems that way!

Haha, thank you. I'm a dirty try-hard, it's true.

Thanks, Haas. I'll maybe give it a go during a future sale. I know you weren't high on the first game but would it be worth it to start there from a story perspective at least?

There's a lot of background information regarding the CREO corporation - mainly how it all went haywire, and although it does have some interesting moments I wouldn't worry too much about not understanding what is going on. On a surface level it's pretty simple, so The Surge 2 is a good starting point. There's definitely a lot of references to The Surge 1 in The Surge 2, but all of it is pretty obvious and most you can figure out through dialogue here. Although I think at its core the actual story in The Surge 1 was more interesting, it definitely had less personality than what they added in The Surge 2. In neither case it's a big focus though.

I hate how reviews give away the intro like it isnt spoiling the surprise. I love not knowing the beginning. A review is suppose to be about technical aspects not story oriented. Major reviewers do this and started the trend and those follow. There are a few that dont spoil the beginning like acg reviews. He understands. There are a few others as well. Ypu should learn from them and not mimick gamespot, ign, pcgamer etc. Thanks.

Yeah I highly doubt he makes no mention of story context AT ALL because story IS incredibly important. I take very obvious care that "the surprise" is maintained, and everything I "reveal" is nothing more than the first 10 minutes of premise usually. You have to be able to discuss story as it is crucial to the atmosphere and pacing of a game. Without talking about those aspects at all I doubt your review will be remotely comprehensive enough. And I highly doubt I'm mimicking anyone.
