What if you use high ball...you will always touch the rail above the side pocket and it slows down the cue ball

I would always, as my 1st option, use center/right. I will get the biggest piece of the cue, a huge part of solid hits.

You said it sharivari, and I agree. The key with this shot is to ALWAYS bounce off the bottom rail because the position zone essentially doubles in size. If you get too thin on the 8 ball, the 3-4 rail shot is always available for the last shot. Which people just need to get comfortable with.

I agree with You Sharivari!...I'm not good enough to monkey around with a lot of inside spin. I try to use the natural angle as much as poss....I'm going to have my wife watch this since she knows very little about spin...it should confuse her enough that I can win more games against her...hehe...

With the original shot I would always shoot the shot with just a touch of outside spin and play it hard enough to come off the 2nd rail.

I tend to agree that the only right shot is the one that makes the shooter feel confident.

Many times I'll watch a video of a match between really good players and try to anticipate where they'll leave the cue ball and how they'll do it. I'm probably right about 80% to 90% of the time. Sometimes, though, someone will play a shot completely differently than I thought they would, and those are the shots I try to learn from.

Your friend's choice is correct. Easy to pocket the ball and after hitting the second rail, the cue ball heads naturally toward the target and along the shot line.

In Chua's shot the seven ball was more off the cushion. His choice is the best.

More of these please. In a meaningful game, I agree always play the shot you’re comfortable with now, but for the long term, you have to choose the simpler, more reproducible shots when possible (know that inside English shot in case of traffic)

I’ve shot that shot all three ways at least 100 thousand times! And I have found every way to screw it up. I’ve found that the only right way to shoot any shot is with total dedication to the way you choose. Any mistakes come from not having total commitment with the way your shooting the shot. Efren Reyes stated to us a long time ago, “ you don’t bend over until you’re positive on how to shoot the shot”. And then forget everything else.

In all honesty, i would probably go inside.. but id do a lot more inside and hit it much firmer to go 3 rails (short/ball, top long rail, bottom long rail between 8 and 9) easier to do a confidence stroke 😅

I was thinking three rails using bottom right spin. With a confident stroke you should be able to get into the target zone
@Sharivari
@Sharivari Жыл бұрын
That works on old cloth. New cloth slides, so the low right doesn't grab enough. For me it would still be a hair too much angle / the object ball too close to the short rail. But just a slight difference in ball position, and your shot is the best choice.

Play with what is more comfortable for you. If you have to play a shot that you are not comfortable then it is not the right shot. but if you are truly skilled, then either shot should pose a problem for you. That being said, adding English does make it harder for the shot but if you are skilled at it it shouldn't be a problem therefore for a professional player is always good to challenge yourself. :D

What would be the initial angle between the cb and 7 ball to have it exactly go perpendicular to the long rail when no spin is applied? Is it 60 degrees? I am having trouble calculating this before I can judge the best option

Only of the ball is frozen to the rail, which it isn't here.
@chili015
@chili015 Жыл бұрын
That's only true when it's a very thin cut with a ball on the rail... where you would slightly hit the rail first and the inside spin would come into the object ball, making it easier to pot. On regular cut shots like the one in this video, outside spin makes it easier to pot because you can hit the object ball first and the spin will help throw the object ball towards the pocket (and not push into the rail) with transferred running English, helping it slide along the rail

There should be NO DOUBT that with the main shot shown going up and down, with a slight bit of right hand english, is the way to go. I realize it depends on the person shooting but I can close to 100% guarantee that if you took 1000 players and had them hit each shot 100 times - the slight right hand english going up and down and hitting the rail would be the successful shot the vast majority of the time.

Stuff like this is the reason your a short-stop. Their is only 1 best shot in every scenario. Using that shot in every spot, makes running the racks you are supposed to run, more consistent.

I picked 1 but either way I took something with me from this video. I need to start calculating how big my target zone is and how long my cue ball can travel through it. I always try to come in line to achieve this but I need to pay attention more.

Always take the option YOU are most comfortable with. Different players will have different comfort levels with a given shot. Personally, I would not do it the way Chua did because the 2 rail method nearly snookered you. I routinely attack balls frozen to the rail even though my opponents tell me I'm crazy. Why do I do that? Because I cut my teeth on that shot, and I'm very comfortable with it. There is no one size fits all decision tree in pool.

I agree with your initial thought most of the time but in this situation the simplest shot is the best and gives you the best chance at a leave and that’s just hit the bottom rail.

? Slight high.. no throw to worry about... ball to 3/2 diamond. ? Easily controlled shot. ( worse outcome- lands on the rail) odds it straight in very low... my thoughts watching. Right or wrong? Im no expert that's for sure! But the less you try to control a shot, the better the outcome with natraul roll.

5:14 This long rail double bank shot happens to me quite often (accidentally) when I actually aim for one rail bank shot ... so, did he play it on purpose or was it just a coincidence where he went for one rail bank shot but accidentally made it, captured by cam lol 😆
