I was stationed in Panama for 2 years (86-88 A. Co. 1/508 Airborne at Ft. Kobbe) then when to Ft Bragg to the 82nd from 88-90 (C. Co. 1/504 Parachute Infantry Regiment). In 1990 after coming back from Operation Just Cause, my unit went to back to Panama for Jungle Expert School (at JOTC Fort Sherman, now Shelter Bay) about a month later. We were told the lighthouse was off limits. So a buddy and I got three sheets to the wind on our one day off and climbed just over half way, on the outside, of the lighthouse. I'm glad we had enough brain cells clicking to stop and head back down. Good times!

I've always wondered what would happen if they opened up the canal and let the waters on both sides level out so we wouldn't need the canal? Does anyone have an answer? 🇺🇸
@kurttosczak85442 жыл бұрын
Lake Gatun is 85 feet above sea level, hence the lock system. To allow transit without locks it would mean that you would need to dig the channels another 85 feet deeper than they already are and the slopes and everything else at the cost of billions of dollars. When they were first trying to dig the panama canal this was what they were trying to accomplish but with landslides and other issues made this extremely difficult so they switched to a lock system to avoid the problems and the costs that would be involved in a sea level transit system.

You guys deserve more viewers. Tough not having any cute kids or babies or scuba divers or cute deck hands to provide a change and some color commentary, though buddying up with the tour leader Delos is very clever and practical. So I suggest you do what talk show hosts do to relieve just being talking to yourselves - interview more guests. Wherever you can talk to locals -even if just the harbor pilot or rope boy or cook or other locals because us landlubbers don't know any of them and find all the variety fun - even if in very broken English :)
@markbuskens60702 жыл бұрын
Antho this is good stuff if want babies or pets there’s plenty of channels for you🥴do you really think they could carry on a conversation with a guy 40 feet above???Ive been through locks in Louisiana and it’s very nerve racking to say the least.your comment is so ignorant🤓Calico is great so sit back and learn some things.I suggest you be quite😉
