@@darlenefraser3022 A good portion of the shameful stuff is covered up. I can remember a history book in the 5th grade in the 90's teaching an inaccurate account about the Battle of the Little Big Horn or Wounded Knee. I forget which now. I ended up having a discussion with the teacher about it before the test and shared with her what I'd learned from a historian that was working at one of those places I talked to while on a family trip. Later I remember having a debate with someone else about smallpox being intentionally spread to reservations here in the US, then later when I was in university stumbling on scans of a diary from a soldier that dis exactly that and was gloating. Currently there are other things that are intentionally not being taught in our schools.

I usually say that the last time any land of any state in the United States was invaded - i.e. had boots on the ground - by a foreign military was the War of 1812. The last time any foreign military invaded some territory of the US was WWII.

A submarine having it's own plane is pretty ingenious. With satellites it wouldn't be needed for recon but being able to launch an armed drone from off an enemy coast would be pretty effective.

My grandfather what's in the Navy and got stationed in a very tiny town called Whittier Alaska during world war 2 and thought out in the i Aleutian Islands, after he got out of the military he returned to Alaska bought up property and bought a hotel bar and restaurant. My father followed suit enlisting in the Air Force after my father found out that he had a child on the way (me) quickly followed by my brother 11 months after my birth. We spent 5 years in Alabama and then another 10 years in Kentucky until we got stationed here in Alaska when I was going into my sophomore year of high school. I also joined the military after college and I spent the first 10 years in Kentucky and have been in Alaska ever since. I am 4 years away from retirement and oddly I probably owe my existence to world war II. I have two children but neither one of them have any interest in the military just like myself during my high school years. Three generations of my family have sacrificed so much but have been rewarded with even more. My grandfather and my father are both gone now but I firmly believe that there's a silver lining to almost anything. The biggest problem I have with most Young Americans is they've never stepped foot out of the continent of the United States or maybe not even their own state. People become so entitled and so ignorant to the outside world and the atrocities that happen communist countries primarily in Asia. If you ever think that you've had a bad life and you think someone owes you for it just take a look at people in North Korea Russia and China. This is the greatest nation on Earth, if you can't make it here you will never survive outside of our country.Be humble and thankful for all the people that lived before you that died for your freedom and your god-given rights in America Stationed at JBER Air Force Base Anchorage Alaska 🇺🇲

Confusing. So are we all supposed to thank the people who fought and died for our rights and freedoms, or a god? I’m also a product of US military operations in the Far East so you have no claim on American-ness greater than my own; we’re equals but how about doing a little less finger shaking and moralizing of the “Younger Generation”? I actually agree with you that more education about world history is needed but you just sound like an ass that very few would want to listen to.

I live in Oregon, grew up here. I knew before I even clicked what the heartwarming part was. Yes, the Pilot has visited and was warmly received by the locals. Also, Fort Stevens near the mouth of the Columbia River was shelled by a Japanese Submarine, they did not bother firing back because it would have only given their exact position away and none of the shells landed close enough to the battery under attack, Battery Russel to be exact. There is a wonderful Oregon State Park there now and you can tour Battery Russel, camp, cruise on the beach, yes Oregon Coastlines are designated Highways, and many sections are still open to vehicular traffic, we have the rainforests, the Columbia River, the city of Astoria is a really cool place to visit, they made the Goonies, Kindergarten Cop, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II, Short Circuit, and several other movies there. They have a great maritime museum with great exhibits, the Astoria Column with fantastic views of the area, and of course all the coastal towns with their shops and histories. Oregon is pretty laid back and it is no surprise at all that one of our communities embraced the pilot that attacked them years after the war and put the past to good use using it to make stronger international bonds. Much of the timber logged from that area was used to rebuild Japan after the war and we still sell the majority of our timber resources to Japan, personally I would rather sell them finished lumber that we could mill here but that is another story on how Japan actually financially won WWII when it comes to the US.

During tge final months of World War II, Japan had planned to use bubonic plague as a biological weapon against U.S. civilians in San Diego, California, during Operation Cherry Blossoms at Night. The plan was set to launch at night on September 22, 1945. However, it was shelved because Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945.
