Looking good Peter! Nice shots. Really like the white look on those lenses in combination with the red komodo 👌

Great video - it gives me hope that a 3k sub channel can actually get cool stuff to review - 100 more and I'll be standing by the mailbox waiting for my Cattas! In all seriousness, great overview. As a Sony full-frame shooter, I've been looking for full frame coverage in a cine zoom. These look fantastic. Keep up the great work!

Thanks man! And I agree, companies seeing the value of smaller channels and the quality content they make is very much appreciated. Quality of just exposure seems pretty rare these days. it also gives us the chance to prove that we are worthy channels I feel like.

These look great. I've been using the Canon FD 35-105 3.5 and been super happy. After years of using primes, I am enjoying the comfort of having a zoom. Have you found your shooting style has changed using a zoom?

Hey! Thanks for a great review! Am I right, the black ef version would be compatible with speed boosters? So it would be possible to have around f1.8 on crop sensors?
@PeterBaerveldt2 жыл бұрын
That's right! I hope I get the chance to try them out when they drop. Pairing this with a speedbooster is going to be amazing.

Hi Peter, thanks for sharing your experience with Catta zoom lenses. We are very focused on these lenses but we are using Sony FX3 and BMPCC6k.. so we are trying to find the best option for how to use Catta lenses on both systems. When DZOfilm releases EF version do you think it will be perfectly fine to buy that version and EF to E adapter? The second question is about E mount (white catta lenses) When you bought these ones did you get an RF mount in the package or do you have to buy additional accessories? and the third question is maybe is most important... Give us some honest feedback about Chromatic aberration... We saw some videos with Pictor zoom lenses... and CA was very strong. We really hope Catta is much better. Hi! I understand your predicament. If I were in the same position I would wait for the now released EF version. It's more verstaille for my setups as wel. I use adapters on the Komodo all the time and I have no problems what so ever. I like my RF-EF speedbooster a lot. as Komodo is only S35. About the CA. On mine it's very good. I tried the R3 full frame and the Komodo and it performed good on both. I've seen some video's of other creators that have had a lot of CA. I know for a fact they perform better than the Pictors (however I haven't had any serious CA issues on those either so far). Just don't shoot way over exposed. My Vespid primes sometimes have some CA when over exposing quite a bit. I presume its around the same. The CA performance is better than most of my current zoom lens including the Canon 24-70 f2.8 RF.

you may know if for example the canon vND filter fits into the filter tray?
@PeterBaerveldt2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't unfortunately. I did try tho haha. I did try.

Awesome channel, been watching you closely since you invested in the Komodo as you put out great work! Question, you mentioned that you tried balancing these Catta lenses on your RS2 with Komodo, but did not have any luck. Can you go more into why that was the case? What did you struggle with? What was tried and why did it fail? Have you tried not using the canon batteries and swapping out the base plate for the Tilta RS2 battery base plate that would theoretically give you extra clearance in the back so that when coupled with the Smallrig counter-weight system you may have more weight to counter the heft and length of the Catta lenses? I've seen folks succesfully fly the Komodo + PICTOR/Fujinon cine zoom lenses on the Komodo with little issue using such methods. Wondering why that would not be the case with the Cattas. Also can you use a speedbooster on the white version or is it only on the upcoming black set? Keep up the great work!

Hi thank you for your support! Means a lot to me. question one: Well, by now I did it. I balanced it successfully and the video where I do that comes out soon. It requires counterweight but it works. So stay tuned for that :) Question two: The white version is in my case RF so no speedbooster works for that. The upcoming EF version surely is! On the side: I've seen people do that on the RS2 as well but I've never seen anyone also using that setup. I don't see everything off course but many of these rigs turn up on Instagram and when you look closely there's no power, no focus motor and stuff like that. So does it fit.. Yes, does it work.. don't know. Would love to see some results. Catta's however do work and the RS2 takes it. Even with the komodo.

I am looking for a budget zoom cinema lens for Canon R5C. All the videos I have seen made from this lens are soft and not much detail. Is this lens not sharp?
@PeterBaerveldt Жыл бұрын
It's no Sigma for sure, the Catta's heave a beautiful, slightly softer, character. I really enjoy this look but in order to make sure the lens is the right one for you just rent it for a day and test it out.
