I've been looking into a lot of pre-made survival kit systems (RinoReady, Uncharted Supply, Stormpacks, Surviveware...) and I gotta say, this kit looks to be the most comprehensive of them all!

Being uncomfortable is something I wholly endorse. We have become so "reliant" to the comforts that marketing or society has created, that we lose track or why we created this comfort in the beginning and once a person loses this ability, we panic when that comfort has been.eliminated ( by whatever happens) and when you panic, then all kinds of uncool things happen.

I like this mostly on the merit of the price for the value of a tent/sleep system/ and pack that are all made to fit together. Im an experienced packer but but finding affordable items that can pack down is a big deal. I like the 1 man version of that tent a lot.

To me a survival kit is an ad on to your existing gear, or to be used in place if you lose your existing gear. This is a full blown bug out bag. I thought Peak meals were very expensive but Mountain House are close to $15 now and Peak offers more calories and protein per meal. A local store carries them so I'll try a few out.
@grimgranite Жыл бұрын
Yeah, definitely try them out. Peak meals are superior to Mountain House in my opinion.

The pack (for 1 ) is $400. $625 for two. No one can touch a decent backpack nowadays for less than $300 (new) let alone anything other than a $20 Amazon tarp and $20 Walmart sleeping bag. Maybe a $20 knockoff cook kit and that leaves nothing remaining after taxes. As a 30 year backpacker and 15 year prepper I’ll never buy a pre-built pack of anything but for someone who just popped back into reality and now recognizes that our lives are highly likely to take a significant turn away from “the norm” it’s probably a good start. The price point is what makes it so. Expect the thinnest ripstop nylon and overall poor quality manufacturing but $400 isn’t really very much money when one is exploring real deal wilderness gear. The likely Achilles heel to this kit is longevity. I doubt the fabrics will hold up through more than a few storms. To put it in perspective: were someone to buy tried n true brand quality gear piecemeal this compliment of gear, at any level of quality beyond bottom of the barrel Amazon, would be $2k. Easily. There’s two sayings that everyone whose ever gone into REI knows: “you get what you pay for” and “buy once, cry once” If you’re considering this kit remember NO ONE launches a business for free. The typical retail markup is 125% So for $400 expect around $180 worth of gear. Which is doable. Chinese knockoffs of Gregory packs at the 60L size can be found for $60. That’s not a slight in any way on the company. It’s just reality. The upside? It gets you prepped better than nothing and with little effort. Once you set up a “survival camp” in your back yard you’ll easily see precisely where heavier investment needs to be made. Do not buy this or any other prefab kit and just stuff it in the closet. That’s what most do and it totally negates the aforementioned benefits for your dollars. Time isn’t on our side and before investing heavily in the magical “bug out bag” consider this with great profundity: WHERE am I bugging out to? Where the grass is greener? Where is that? Do I typically run my car down to 1 gallon over empty? Will police set roadblocks? Is it reasonable to think I can make it 1740 miles to Uncle Nicky’s cabin while passing through 14 East Coast cities or 11 West Coast population dense epicenters? Once you work through this matrix it might behoove you to spend your first $400 on food to stay alive 2-3 weeks in your home along with a couple extra mags, boxes of ammo and a Bible. Too many well meaning people build the “survival woobie” without ever taking the exercise to the next logical step. Where are you going? It’s actually emblematic of our 50 years of consumerism and disposable mentality that got us to the edge of collapse to begin with. Along with a completely corrupt rulership who only got there because we ignored our Founders and the warnings from the 20th Century. Republics don’t run on cruise control. God bless, all.
