You can get sandpaper up to 20,000 grit with adhesive backing for very cheap and stick it to glass, a bit of a learning curve, but you can get as good an edge as the overpriced toy he is schilling

Me personally I use a clamp system and freehand sharpening! Show for my clamp system I use the work Sharp pro that's the newer version that has the added support and angle cube and diamond Stone from 200 grit all the way through to 1000, ceramic and leather strop. And then for free hand sharpening obviously diamond plates a ceramic ultra fine and usually two leather strops with a 4 micron and finish with a 1 micron.

When I was a kid I had a Swiss Army knife that I had and used a pull through sharpener for a while didn’t know if it was super sharp or not then cut up an apple like the “old man” in this video is then about ten minutes after consuming said apple I felt my thumb burning. I had cut partly through my thumb nail and thumb. The apple juice is the only reason I noticed because I had sharpened it so much

@@fluffernutter6633Its literally more of a hassle getting it out, setting it up, and switching the stones and strops on both sides. Just use diamond stones, much faster and genuinely less hassle

@@noynayru You just set it up and leave it there, if you're spending money on something like this then you probably have a dedicated space for it. It's an enthusiast grade tool, you're not buying it because it's quick and easy.

Years ago I put the effort into showing my young daughter how to use a kitchen knife correctly and it has paid off over the years. Kids (and people) are doing less and less with their hands these days so it was really important to me and her dad that she knows how to use the right knife for the right type if cutting and how to use her hands effectively. It’s too easy to just avoid teaching the “dangerous” skills bc it’s time consuming. I’ve explained to her that she’s more likely to hurt herself w a dull blade than a sharp blade or by using the wrong size knife. There were moments when had to give her a hard time bc she would pick up a veggie and cut towards her hand But she’s not done that for a long time. She helps me make our camp fires and it’s fun! I have a “my first opinel” for her. It’s easy to open and lock so it’s the right first knife for her. Great video!

Question I have that however I have a knife with a bevel and I cannot get an edge on that blade . I don't know if I need to adjust a little due to the bevel ?
@REAPER3fitty3 күн бұрын
Every knife has a bevel
@joshw.27392 күн бұрын
Could you clarify a little bit more? With some technical exceptions, every knife has a bevel, most nowadays also have a secondary bevel. Based on your post, I assume that there is something abnormal or non-standard about the bevel. Is it too steep? Too shallow? Or by it having a bevel do you mean that it is a scani grind (single bevel)?
@crdrivers2 күн бұрын
@joshw.2739 like when a knife blade gets thinner a hollow edge the knife I'm trying to sharpen has a hollow edge so does that change the angle of sharpening at all? Factory edge was supposed to be set at 20 but it's the only knife that I have like and also the one I struggle to sharpen
@joshw.27392 күн бұрын
@ a concave primary bevel shouldn’t change the technique unless it’s on a straight razor. Or super thin like a straight razor. The secondary bevel (the actual edge) should still be a normal v-edge. I have some knives that I’ve had difficulty sharpening until I really went back and concentrated on the basics. To find the angle it’s currently ground to, set the knife edge on the stone at a shallow angle. look really closely where the edge meets the stone and start tipping it up until you see the tiny gap between the stone and the apex of the knife disappear. Whether you wanna keep that nominal 20 degree angle or change it, the important part is to hold a consistent angle with each stroke and keep doing passes on both sides until a burr develops. You only move to the next stone after that burr forms and swaps from one side to another with just a pass or two. You should be able to feel which side the burr is on with your thumb. The motion should be like trying to spread butter on your thumb, just with the knife still and the thumb moving. (overexplaining for safety reasons.) Another possible source of difficulty sharpening could be the steel or hardening of said steel. Both really low-end and really high-end steel can be difficult to sharpen. I don’t think this would be an issue because it sounds like you might be sharpening other knives as well, but make sure that you’re progressing from low grit number to high grit number on the stones.

Just a FYI. It is not a peak output of 3600 watts even though claim it. The back of the unit actually has peak of 2200 watts written on it. Also they really slimy with amazon posting. They cancel them and repost if the score is not high. I have one and works for what I am doing but also no has no phone app to monitor anything, top of unit has a connection feature that does nothing, and like most of these units, you need to somehow get ground (or trick it) if you need it for say a furnace etc. . Def a steal if you can find it at 400 bucks but with the missing features look at other options if over that price range. Don't expect any customer support as its from a small company out of Xianyang China.
