Well there were several Spartans that ran away during training (daisy,Ralph , Joseph and two others with no names) the first three were brought back but the other two killed themselves so some did try to escape. Its from halo:homecoming

@Jonathan Western: Nope. John was a unique case. He was given Cortana for OPERATION: Red Flag, and they were kept together because the pair worked well. The only other Spartans ever paired with an AI was Naomi-010 from the Kilo-5 books. She was paired with an AI called Black Box, and that was really just for fun (in Black Box's eyes).

Esteban Lopez Ghosts of Onyx focused mainly on the final mission of each company, which happened to be massive operations with high casualty rates. Make no mistake, even 300 Spartan-IIs in full Mjolnir likely would have suffered heavy casualties. The IIIs only had SPI armor (basically upgraded ODST armor). Prior to each company's suicide mission, but Alpha and Beta companies had stellar service records.

I just can't get behind the new Spartans. My liking for the Spartans ends at Spartan 3's. The newer ones are just regular soldiers in armor, they can't even WEAR Spartan 2 armor never mind match up to one. It's why the whole 117 vs Locke thing pissed me off, there is no competition. The only new Spartan i have respect for is Buck. What also annoys me is how Palmer tries to do the whole 'Macho Soldier' thing and calls the scientists 'Egg heads' and crap like that. The Spartans were chosen from the best of humanity, they are not unintelligent brutes with shiny armor.

They are not physically similar. Spartan IIs got raw augmentations unaltered even through saner because those who survived would be stronger then those who survived through less dangerous augmentation. Spartan IIs are now naturally strong and fast. They don't need there armour to do what they do. Spartan 4s by law were not allowed to take raw augmentations nor did they wan to because they were volunteers. Therefore the augmentations were much much much weaker and only used enough for the Spartans to be able to carry the armour weight nothing more. The suits for Spartan 4s are the only thing protecting them and levelling the playing field. Strip a Spartan 2 and a Spartan 4 armour make them fight and the 4 will probably die. A Spartan 2 can flip a warthog without armour, a Spartan 4 can only do that with his armour. Spartan IIs are superior in many aspects. And remember. Most of the Spartan IIs integrated into the Spartan 4 program like chief. Making them even more superior over the new Spartan 4s because they have everything the Spartan 4s do and more from their original Spartan 2 training.

So the Red Team I mentioned here is just one Spartan-II red team that once existed. They are still referred to as Red Team for the sake of simplicity.

SPARTAN Crespo turned out to be a traitor, along with Schein (deceased; suicide bombing during SPARTAN-IV training), selling out his two fellow SPARTANs during a covert mission on the planet Talista. As of 2555, SPARTAN Crespo is on trial for crimes against the UNSC and defecting to the Insurrection. Rest in Peace, Rookie. Feet first into hell.

It's kind of silly how many secret special rogue Spartan operatives they keep adding to the lore. It was cooler when it was simple - there were very few Spartan-IIs left after Reach, then the Spartan-IIIs came along and most of them were wiped out except for those that were in the Battle of Onyx. And then the Spartan-IVs came along. But then they keep going "oh, and there was this team that tested top secret gear, and this team that was more independent than other Spartans, and this one Spartan who was allowed to retire", at a certain point it's like, come on! Enough already!

Well, at least with Black Team, they served something of a purpose. The Mjolnir/BLACK variant helped to explain the relatively short time between the fielding of Mk. V and Mk. VI Mjolnir. It was also implied (around the time the comic came out) that Black Team were originally wash-outs that had been "fixed" and re-fielded later in the war. This idea was later expanded on with Halsey's Journal and the Kilo-5 books (all in an effort to explain the messed Spartan-II numbers).

However, it was discontinued and shut down as many, if not all, of the subjects involved suffered severe physical and mental problems due to the premature augmentations. ( Doctor Halsey wasn't finished with her reasurch when the program started due to the increasing pressure from ONI high command.) as such, the program was shut down and some years later the spartan 2 program started up with much more sucess.

I dont think Gen 2 would work for a II due to them being a lot taller than the IVs but the Mark VII I believe is the production version of the Gen 1 making it cheaper it just has a few new features such as thrusters and nanobots that work in cryo so I dont see to much of a combat improvement since they made you able to sprint in the mark VI and use thruster packs

I think you might have forgotten SPARTAN-B170, an S-III of Beta Company. We don't know much of anything about B170 (even gender), but what we do know is that in May 2545, Kurt-051 tried to have them and Lucy-B091 sent on a deep recon mission to avoid the anticipated bloodbath of Operation: TORPEDO. While Lucy did end up assigned to TORPEDO, whether B170 managed to avoid it or not is unknown, as is what happened to him/her afterwards.

Just Chris what are you even talking about? Most spartan 4 teams are not like the one you see in spartan ops. Most are professional, highly skilled, and efficient. Spartan 4 team Osiris are good examples of this. Most spartan 4s were previously 3s and ODSTs, and this shows with there elite nature. Of course they won’t be as good as 2s and 3s because the program is not as selective genetically as either previous programs and don’t abduct kids and train spartans from such a young age, but they’re not trying to be as good, they’re trying to be more numerous and function as a sustainable super soldiers program that doesn’t rely on abusing children and taking them away from there parents.

A MAJOR correction. Jorge-052 is simply missing in action and more than likely alive. He is not a confirmed kill by any means. Remember the slip space bomb only destroyed the covenant super carrier "A Grave Threat" cutting it in half. He was however on the covenant Corvette "Ardent Prayer" which was FULLY enveloped in the slip space rupture. Even without the working ships of the Corvette he has access to: 1 - Fully working Pelican with likely rations and ammo supplies. 4 - working Saber craft His survival and ability to return is far more likely than Sgt. Johnson after Halo: CE return to Halo 2 out of a magic hat trick which was referenced by "Guns" Gunny Sgt in Halo 2.

The radiation alone would kill Jorge. Assuming he survived, the Pelican was not working, (recall Jorge saying, " the only way off this slag heap is gravity."). I actually read first strike. It's magical explanation (radiation syndrome makes me immune dur) is why I referenced him. Bungie decided to simply ignore the legendary scene because they wanted to bring him back. They NEVER do this for any covenant or human exposed to the same plasma grenade radiation to be immune to the flood contamination. So it's an accepted wink and nod understanding with us fans that they are pulling a rabbit out of a hat to bring back a much loved character. Jorge however was within a Covenant Corvette which had functional shielding and for all we know Covenant engineers on the ship to repair the engines. We do not understand how radiation would be dispersed within the bubble's physics. Further, he could have placed his helmet on before hitting the button shielding him even further. I really have no clue why you bring in radiation since it is clearly not a problem for anyone doing interstellar travel through slip-space within the actual bubble. It is almost like you simply WANT him to be dead even though it is clear there is NO EVIDENCE AT ALL to say he is dead other than truly simply missing in action. Carter was the only one to say he died, and guess what, he wasn't there. He may have thought he was on the super carrier for all he knew. Jorge has essentially the same fate the Chief had at the end of Halo 3 but better odds.

Arthirias I do want him to be dead because I've had this debate so many times, and it's ultimately fruitless. The Legendary Ending for CE was a joke, and went through many iterations. Originally, Johnson was going to step out of a shower on the Longsword in a towel on Legendary. It is and always a joke, never meant to be considered official. Bungie never cared about explaining Johnson's survival, that was all Microsoft (and Eric Nylund). Bungie and 343 have stated that Jorge is dead, end of story. We don't know that the Corvette (and thus Jorge) wouldn't be ripped apart due to the miss-mounted slipspace drive. And we do know that there would be massive amounts of radiation coming off that slipspace drive. This is made clear in Ghosts of Onyx when Halsey has to make minor repairs to a mini-slipspace drive while in slipspace. Jorge's helmet was off, meaning his shields were down. He had no protection from the onslaught of radiation that would have been given off.

I could understand that you want him dead, however you should know that your FEELS are irrelevant as you have NO PROOF to show anyone that he is in fact dead. You want to tell me Carter, Kat, or Emile is dead? Easy. They are confirmed kills. The "so many times" you claim you've had this debate is an obvious clue a lot of people have recognized that he is obviously not a confirmed kill and is not just missing in action, but missing in action with options of survivability. If Bungie wanted him dead, they screwed up and left his fate open. They will have to actually develop a story to explain how he is now a confirmed kill. Correction to the true designation of [KIA] to Olivia-G291, Mark-G313 and Ash-G099. If you read a lot of Halo books, you'll already know about the G which denotes "Gamma company" of the SIII's. They had mental augmentations which allowed them to remove the limit of stimulants within the brain (like adrenaline), consequently leaving them unchecked and nigh impossible to stop when they were in a rage. These three were on "smoothers" to keep them from becoming mentally unstable on their own. *SPOILERS* (Last Light Book) Later in the story, Fred-104 leads the three Spartans accompanied by inspector Veta Lopis in capturing a Forerunner ancilla/monitor. They are soon trapped deep underground and it takes days for them to reach the surface, by at which point the SIII's have run out of smoothers. Although they manage to keep themselves from trouble (excluding Mark briefly taking a UNSC Sgt. hostage) the fact that they were off their smoothers and an open threat on Gao would damage the Spartan program and the UNSC's reputation heavily. So ONI, being the clever bastards that they are, find a way to kill two birds with one stone. They decided to "disappear" the spartan III's by marking them as KIA and turning them into Ferrets or as Serin Osman calls them - "investigators with teeth." Serin Osman personally picks them up and proposes that Lopis become leader of the Ferret team. She accepts, and the three Gamma's no longer exist in the record as Olivia-G291, Mark-G313 and Ash-G099, but rather as Ferrets. tl;dr They're still alive and now have a "mom."

In regard to "what program produced the best Spartans" its a little broad. I would have to say the Spartan II are the best currently. Due to experience and and somewhat illegal and risky Augments. I believe the spartan IIIs did get augments, but they dint get the more "controversial" ones (may be outdated because I remember reading something about how the UNSC might have overcome them). so in terms of physical stuff the spartan 2s are better (but the 3s MAY have gotten more "upgraded" arguments). Also to note is I believe the spartan 3s were smaller physically.. but that may have been due to the armor. In regard to the spartan IIIIs... Probably similar to the spartan 3s considering the used adult volunteers and even allowed other Spartans IIs to join. So either the 4s have more advanced (or overridden) arguments or a "spartan" 4 is more of a spirited thing.

Meh, i know im stating the obvious when i say Spartan4s aren't really Spartans, their super soldiers at best. Nothing against your video, and i know the controversy is even part of the story, im just throwing this out there cuz it still bugs me. I honesty wouldn't have counted them in this list. Spartan Training, Mjolnir Armor, and Augmentations started out as separate programs, related at best. The Spartans where doing missions even before augmentations. The Mjolnir armor program was intended for wider use and was completely separate. And only became exclusive to the Spartans because the last normal test pilot to try a prototype suite shattered his bones just trying to lift his arm. And since Halsey was involved in both programs, she was confident their augments could compensate. So unless they got the training, their not Spartans. Meeting the standards of a spartan after enlisting and training through normal means, is a feat that most can't achieve.

Mjolnir was developed alongside the Spartan-II program, both overseen by Dr. Halsey. It was only ever tested on unaugmented personnel because some people in ONI wanted to discredit Halsey and her program (internal politics and all that). While Marks I-III were built for general use by UNSC personnel, Halsey built Mjolnir Mk. IV from the ground-up for use by Spartans, the only ones that would be able to use the armor. She knew this from the beginning, as is made clear in her personal journal. And just to note, the Spartan-IVs do receive additional training after they've been augmented.

Anything after spartan II program are not real Spartans. The spartan III's were kids that were orphaned and volunteered to be Spartans but unlike the originals they were taught by, they lack surgical augments thus they could not use mjolnir armor their bodies could not handle the armor. Spart IV's were developed after the war and much like the spartan III's didn't have surgical augments and were adult soldiers who volunteered and a lack of military discipline unlike the original Spartans. Notice how these Spartans are always shorter than spartan II's. Dr. Halsey wont even recognize spartan IV's as real Spartans.

Spartan III's were orphans of dead planets, so they were technically not abducted and I dont know if they were even flash cloned like the Spartan II's were. Due to budget cuts and lack of funding, Spartan III SPI armor had weaker shielding compared to Mjolnir armor, but had slight camouflaging abilities. Lastly, the final generation of Spartan III's had different augmentation cocktails used. These new augmentations helped spartans react faster than before, but the side affect was the lack of thought going into the decision. Kurt knew this when he added the new Augmentations to the formula, but after watching 2 generations of Spartan III's be obliterated, he was all for giving his Spartan III's whatever edge he could.

Welp I suppose now that it's been 3 years just about, these are the things I can remember as far as surviving Spartans go: -Fireteam Osiris: Locke, Buck, Tanaka and Vale being the central characters of Halo 5. -Red Team: Jerome, Douglas and Alice now officially confirmed alive in Halo Wars 2 and are still active as of the current events but are on the Ark assisting the Spirit of Fire. -Omega Team: Leon, Robert and August. Though reintroduced as a leader power for Jerome and so are not actually canon in the Halo Wars timeline right now, they are confirmed alive canonically but we just don't know what happened to them following Arcadia. Furthermore they have confirmed that Jerome was their Commander. -Black Team: Obviously updated but yes, Black Team are confirmed KIA by the Didact. -Grey Team: Confirmed alive in one of the most recent Halo novels. -Romeo, Dutch and Mickey: Originally ODST's from Alpha Nine Squad under the command of SGT. Buck but transferred to the Spartan program. However on that front, Dutch retired following the death of the Rookie and Mickey went rogue meaning only Romeo is active as a Spartan as well as Buck from that group.

I'm just glad chief gets to reunite with Frederic, Kelly, and Linda in halo 5. Linda is my absolute favorite, considering her sniping skills are off the charts and chief claimed she is the "strongest" Spartan, though he didn't mean it literally. Though I wonder if 343 will tie in Frederic's care for his fellow Spartans;he always found it hard to get over a comrade's death. I'd also like to see Kelly display her superior speed and durability. Watching her outrun everyone would be priceless. :D

We learn in the Halo Graphic Novel that Sgt. Johnson was part of the Spartan 1 program. That makes him even more awesome :)

I do think it is important to note that although Ash, Olivia, and Mark are listed as KIA, it is stated in cannon that they may still be alive. They lost contact on a mission and the worst was assumed. anything is possible though.

At 1:46 it shows a piture of Miller from halo 4. I didnt know he actually has a character model. I thought he was just a voiced character.

Im pretty sure kirk is dead now he was the one that trained spartan III's died on the planet holding back a covenant army. I don't know the exact date but its in one of the books Ghost Of Onyx

Kirk was the instructor of spartan III's in the novels, Ghosts of Onyx to be exact. Tom and Lucy were two of the spartan III's. In the novels, spartan III's were "suicide" troops. They were trained to still fight after being hit, as mentioned in the novels.
