I've been on motorbikes since I'm 7 years old and have never been without one since. What I love about this channel is it's completely unbiased when it comes to brands,makes or styles of bikes. I've owned about 40 bikes in my 46 years here on earth and most were just because it was what I could afford at the time. There are so many good,fun,high quality bikes that motorcycle snobs over look because of "brand" loyalty. sometimes a big fat slow Harley is perfect....but other times a smaller nimble bike is better for your daily commute (and budget). In the end it dont matter what you ride as long as your enjoying what you ride!

@@shockadellick let's be honest. A Husky will never be as reliable as the 'ol Zuk.
@shockadellick4 жыл бұрын
@@ThOmAs12111211 You're right...however, its reliable enough. Tune the Zuk 400 to 450cc - 510cc and you won't say that. Old school Varna's 450's made 48hp reliably enough. I've own mine for 15 years without fail. Sure you must stay on top of oil changes. Valves aren't an issue because it isn't tuned like a hyper Jap race bike. However, don't get it mistaken it is a race bike in every way. The DRZ is a beginner's SMR, the frame is heavy and slow acting. And the engine is too over built. When the Italian's where deep in the game no one did it better.
@SephirothsLeftWing4 жыл бұрын
@@shockadellick sorry but most things you stated are truly false smh. The Drz 400 e or the kickstart version made 48hp without being 450cc like your husky and bigbore drz s are just as reliable as stock displacement. And why would you say the frame is heavy?? When the kickstart drz is as light as almost any other ~450 from that time. The sm is only heavy because it has more then just the most necesary stuff a race bike needs to be legal. Do people even realize that ktm and husky also have steel frames? But are still light 🤦♂️ And since when is an lverbuiöt engine a bad thing?
@shockadellick4 жыл бұрын
@@SephirothsLeftWing Over built in that the engine has thick heavy parts. The DRZ will never see 48hp stock. For example, Honda of America claimed my 1995 XR250 made 30hp when true motorcycle enthusiast knew it only produced 20hp. KZbin supermoto races in France or the UK from 2005 thru 2010. Note if you see anyone racing a DRZ. You're not going to see it. Europe take supermoto serious, like how Americans take MX serious. I'm sad if it hurts your feelings, however the truth must stand. And the facts do present themselves seeing no one in their right mind would consider a DRZ a race bike or a race spirited SMR. DRZ's are entry level SMR's. Real world horse power for a DRZ is about 29hp. That being the case, it should be reliable, seeing it doesn't have the power to self destruct.

Got my 08 DRZ SM for 7 years now and I love it. Some time ago I wanted to sell it but than I decided that it will stay with me forever cuz I just love it :D Done so many mods to it that I just can't let it go. Also it's the only bike I've got. Doing mainly twisty mountain roads to around 300km per trip, also about 80% road and 20% offroad on supermoto tires. On longer trips a 6th gear would have been perfect cuz in 5th the RPM's get a little high when you're trying to keep up with a SMC-R 690 or something. And they cost literally the same when I bought mine 7 years ago :D

Me too, i have thought of selling my DRZ SM and getting a Ducati Hypermotard or a Husqvarna 701 but the thought of losing such a reliable bike made me think twice. Also with the tons of mods available for the DRZ plus the ability to change it to different setups (offroad/on road/adventure) just made me love it even more. I do 90% on road and 10% off road, and with my stroker +4mm and big bore +4mm making it a 462cc and also ACT gears, I can cruise on the highway at 140-160km/h all day long.

I had a lot of fun on my DRZ, logged 7k miles into it and bought it new. But it's just lacking in the power department on the highway enough for it to make it not feel as safe as other bikes when you need passing power (of course that's not the purpose of the bike). I also took it to the track, and as expected, on the straight you just get passed by all the sportbikes but you can catch up quickly on the corners. Like Sean says I think it's good if your commutes are limited to city and back roads but if you need to hop on the highway for any amount of time it quickly gets tiring. FWIW I've done 800 miles in one day on the DRZ in a 8 hour round trip, it was brutal. If you are perfectly okay with buzzing away comfortably in 70 mph in stock gearing down the freeway, then definitely go for it because the DRZ is fun like no other bike on the street.

Although the 490 was a bit much for the street😆. My first bike at 15 (you could get your license at 15 then) was an 81 XR200R the first of the prolink models, and that had no switch gear save for a kill switch, the horn was one of those rubber bulb squeeze ones, and full knobblies and that was street legal 🤣🤣 Fun times, but then the health & safety nanny state stepped in and ruined it.

And for a bike on the heavier side, it's pretty nimble for what it is. But it does kinda suck if you're short, I'm 5'9-5'10 and I have a hard time flat footing it, which can make it tricky on uneven terrain etc. but you can definetly still ride it regardless.

And a lot of idiots buy the DRZ 400 from people just to make profit. On the weekend a DRZ 400 SM was put online with 1800km on its clock for 4500€. A guy bought it on the next morning and in the evening the same bike was again on eBay for 7200€... I have been looking for a DRZ 400 or DR 650 SE for about a year now... but idiots always buy it for profit before I even get a chance to drive there and take a look..

Decided to keep just one bike. In the end, it came down to my beloved cbr11xx or my drzsm. The drz sits here still. I miss my sport bike, but in these mountains, the sm reigns supreme. Course it doesnt do for sh*t in grass and dirt with the rain tires. Solution: spare set of rims on knobbies with rotors and sprocket. Got it just right to not even have to bust the chain. My sm is my 'street legal dirtbike'. I miss my xr200 deeply too.

I have a few plated and insured motorcycles to choose from and I seem to always choose my DRZ SM. I just wish the seat wasn’t so darn uncomfortable. I haven’t upgraded much and the seat is definitely next on the list. I’d recommend this bike to anyone who is looking for an everything goes kinda bike

I believe you. My cousin has 6 or 8 street legal bikes including a couple gsxrs, a Hayabusa, and a HD but he says he enjoys his drz sm more than all of them on these twisty WV roads. I'm going to have to find one too.

DRZ400E Rocks! The feeling of the E is amazing. I own a 2005 E which I bought on march of 2020 and had been abandoned since 2009 🤯 and my biggest problem is that you do not find mechanics and technical assistance to overcome simple issues Like finding out why no electricity reaches the spark 😩
