I must have missed this vlog last Christmas. But I adored your Yuletide series oh so much Maria. When I struggled to get into the Christmas spirit due to the trials of life, I watched your series so much! It gave me Hope, Inspiration and you helped me so very much to become excited about Christmas. You are a breath of sweet Life and I am soooooooooo grateful for all your videos. You mean so much to the quality of my life. A window into a most magical world of Swedish, country life, traditions, home making, creativity and just sheer joy. Thankyou beautiful Maria for making my life special because you share your life with us. Eternally grateful xxxxxx

Hello Maria, Oh great, I'm happy I learnt the story around this yule goat, I have one in red (in fabric), bought at Ikea a few years ago, yes, not very original I know... but now I know why it exists, thank you! As you said, people didn't have phones, Internet, TV, etc. to entertain so I find the story quite fun! ^_^

I have Finn and Swede in my DNA, and I love the correlation of the goat. Even my facial hair only comes in like a billy goat. When I was 6 I remember reading three billy goats gruff, and have always loved billy goats. Now in my 30s and doing ancestry research, and following heathenry, things are really coming full circle in my life. side note: I noticed some words in Swedish and Finnish are similar which makes learning the languages easy. Finnish is hard compared to the Scandinavian countries, I know it's because it doesn't come from the same linguistic family.

Thank you, that was super interesting! I'd read about the Gävle Straw Goat the other day and had a good laugh about this weird "tradition" with my husband. Yes, certainly some young people with too much time on their hands!

I am so glad you like it! And yeah, it's such a stupid tradition, or stupidity i general. Let's hope it get's to stay put as is this year!

Hi Maria! Merry Christmas to you and your family from me and mine! 🎄 I've been following you channel for sometime and your Advent Calendar series and information on Swedish traditions is very interesting. I was very intrigued about the story of the Burning Goat and the cute little straw one you have in you video. My question is there a website where I can buy one for my own home or buy a smaller one as a tree ornament? I always look forward to seeing your videos, your beautiful country and you, God bless you! 💚

Funny story about the goat, but I don't think neighbours are trusting each other anymore. So I don't see it happening in the UK where I live. 🍂💕

Goat is one pagan symbols.
@NorthernHeart6 жыл бұрын
Well as I said, and I guessed you heard, I didn't want to go into all the details of where it originates from or what it stands for. But if you wanna go there the word "JUL" in GOD JUL(merry Christmas) also originates from our previous pagan traditions as well as many other details in the Christmas celebrations so..there you go.
@Meinvt5 жыл бұрын
I think burning the goat must also go back that far too, but those people burning the one in that city probably aren’t thinking that much.
