Having an attack of nostalgia! I really must stop watching these videos, I just get so depressed at watching London has changed for the worse in my opinion. It was grotty, grimy, dirty and bit of a dump.... but it was my dump. Some of my earliest memories are of old London around Commercial Road and Archway. If Reagan, Cater and Haskins returned they wouldn't even know where they were. I am of the age when I can remember as clear as bell "The Smoke" as it was then. Now it's turned into a theme park for the over rich and stupid filled with "Mobile Phone Zombies"! These are such good videos.

I know what you mean. The London of my youth was much more grimy and industrial, and yet I actually preferred that London to today’s clinical theme park for the rich and their servants. And the people I knew had real jobs back then too.

Even crime was better then! Proper bank robberies with ski masks and a Tranny van! Now it's kids with their trakkies around their knees trying to be gansta! ​@@Spiderwebsider

So true. Went back last year. Different world. I grew up in lambeth and the London I know was the sweeney days. What the hell happened. Cars were cars then, not space ships, and people were mostly londoners. Thank god we still have this to look back on.

The filming details, the maps, the music - everything totally spot on once again. I can't praise your work enough. It's sad to see how much has been lost or modernised, but at the same time we are guilty of looking back through rose-tinted spectacles in many respects. The run-down and derelict post-industrial sites in the 70s were grim and depressing - something had to change... even if it put an end to Bill's spontaneous football games and twisted ankles !

Gentrification, that's the name of the game. Amazing how even planting trees makes a street look so much nicer. 50 years? Strike a light...

It really strikes me how 'barren' the streets all looked compared to now (sometimes for the better, sometimes maybe not). Hardly any parked cars, very little street furniture, fewer trees... Guess that's the mark of turning former working areas into housing.

The Sweeney series almost from a different world compared to todays policing. No Jimmy Park or Jimmy Fleet,mainly drug and people smuggling gangs today

Last shot is outside the gates of Sloane House, 151 Old Church Street. Looks like the same gates. Petra Ecclestone allegedly paid somewhere in the region of £150m when she bought Sloane House from the Bamfords (JCB, Daylesford's, watches) in the early noughties. Was on the market a couple of years ago. Don't know if she sold it. Loads of work & extensions since the 1970s. I wonder what it was worth then.

Been to the Sands End area and walked on the streets that thought that some were used for filming, thanks to your great effort I know know they were. Just wondering now if John and Denis ever visited the Lots Road pub.
