OMG guys!! I´m so happy you lived this special experience!! From all your videos I realized you really love Romania, but in this one, you went through the essence of how we live in our country. I guess everybody loves to travel, to see all kind of restaurants and hotels, places and monuments, but there you'll never find the authenticity of a country if you do what most people do. Again, I enjoy seeing your journey as you do in the field! Thanks for sharing your adventure along this beautiful country. Keep up the good work and remember: you are AWESOME!!!

Most of us that group up in a house not an apartment we have everything that you see in the video, we keep it for the winter, also we cut a pig for 200 kg and prepare it for winter. By us before it was very difficult and we had to make everything ourselves because we didn’t had money to buy. Now my family is keeping this tradition too because of the health and good taste that real food has.

My 95 years old grandma use to say, before she became senile: the secret to a long life is work, work,work, less food and a lot of răchie (tzuica). I now think that what she ment is that alcohool release stress, so it helps. God save grandmas 🤣🤣🤣
@RatzY112 жыл бұрын
Guys, don't confuse palinca with tuica because palinca has 51% alcohol meanwhile tuica can have 30% or 40%, so it's not the same. What an amazing and lovely family to welcome you. 🥰

This is truly what they call real food. Cow eats corn and we get real milk from it. All their food is amazing.
@anapobleanu12 жыл бұрын
I'm sooo happy you finally got to the essence of Romanian country side :D. Most of the people your age grew up near such a farm, either of their parents or of their grand parents. A few explinations: The cow poop is stashed so it is used in the spring as a soil fertiliser. The best 100% natural fertiliser ever. Besides using cow poop, farmers ratate the cultivated vegetable each a couple of years, because each uses different nutrients from the soil. So first years you have potatoes on a side, next years you switch them with the tomatoes etc. The corn piles ar put like this so those don't mold from the rain & humidity. Usually when it starts raining they put a plastic wrap on top. Sometimes, in the middle of the pile there are stored pumpkins during the winter, usually the ones for the pigs. Because of the pile of corn stalks, the temperature is constant and above freezing point. Romanians take a lot of pride regarding their foods, to the extent that people literally have arguments about which version of sarmale or varză is the best. I am in team Moldova in this fights, the Moldavian area have the best sarmale, cozonaci and the best anything food related :)))

The "oltenian onion" is leek, in case you're wondering. It's a staple in Oltenia. And the cow dung pile is there for using as fertilizer, in the garden, and the plants will grow bigger and the cycle goes on. Anything that can be used, will be used, on a farm.

Happy you did this, eventually. The hay or the cobs are staked to dry out and not get mold. Leaving with provisions as gifts at the end is something traditional in Romania. The best thing is that what you saw at Anna's you can see, more or less, in any Romanian household from the country side. Our land is still fertile and also we still have very big rural communities so we are tied to traditions.

Guys!!! this is so awesome! it brought back memories of my childhood, my grandma had lots of grapes she was making wine, "visinata" , tuica, she had lots of fruit trees, animals, she was making her own cheese, bread, gems everything was fresh. We didn't even know what fast food is, because there was none 😁. My grandma is going to be 90 years old this year. In Romania you know every neighbor, here in Canada I know only maybe 2 , and I don't really see them.

Hello JL Warriors! As a Transylvanian student in Timisoara I had many friends from the Oltenia (Craiova) region. The Transylvanian palinca was better than their tzuica imho, however the oltenian zaibar (red wine) was my favorite. Fast forward, I am now your neighbor living in the 905 area and miss all the things you get to enjoy now in my native RO. So happy to watch all the places you are taking us these last few weeks.

Love again on your return how you just dive into the essence of Romania, but this episode was cool. People may come here for the castles etc, but for me having lived here for 6 years now and calling it home, the real beauty is the Romanian family and the hospitality and at the centre of all families a good strong Grandma🙂👍💪. Bottling things for winter, cooking the vegetables, pickling and having a good drink while doing it, is all part of it, we get that done in my partners family every year. You are spot on, you must visit at Christmas, just a special time of year, the food and also it is very traditional religiously. Awesome guys, multa sanatate!
