Reminds me of my daughter... Her mother killed her in 1984... I never recovered from it. All these years later I am still broken.... Yet I still have faith... I do.......

My name is Clementine (but french version, so pronounced Clementeen). My french mum used to sing the 'Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine' when I was sad to comfort me when I was little to stop me crying. I never thought it was a real song, I thought is was a tune and she put it to words. I'm 18 now, and finding this, this song and the spectral verses about the miner's daughter and the women singing it for the first time. Its like I'm 3 again, sitting on my mum's lap and feeling the tears well up again.

Dont let me down I feel you, my name is Clementine (Clementina) and I use to have a toy that will sing me this song and I loved it.

+Don't let me down my mom used to sing this song to me when I was little, until one day when I was about four or five, my mom sang the beginning of the song to me and I asked her, "Wait! Why did the miner's daughter go away?" and she told me, "Oh, she died!Isn't that sad?" After that, my mom tried to sing it to me a few times, but I would just start crying and tell her to stop!

It gets very chilling and intense at exactly 1:00. The girl who sings "ruby lips above the water blowing bubbles soft and fine, but alas I was no swimmer so I lost my clementine" deserves a medal!

It makes me happy to see a song where the sopranos are harmonizing the altos, since it’s most usually the other way around. Lovely version!

You know what finally hit me why I liked this video beyond the ethereal voices and the pretty faces is all the ladies and the whole scene looks like it comes straight out of a Toulouse-Lautrec painting.

In a cavern, in a canyon, excavating for a mine Lived a miner forty-niner. and his daughter Clementine. Oh my darling, oh my darling. Oh my darling, Clementine, You were lost and gone forever, dreadful sorrow, Clementine. Drove the horses to the water, every morning just at nine. Stuck her foot against a splinter, fell into the foaming brine. Oh my darling, oh my darling. Oh my darling, Clementine, You were lost and gone forever, dreadful sorrow, Clementine. Ruby lips above the water, blowing bubbles soft and fine. But at last, I was no swimmer, so I lost my Clementine. Oh my darling, oh my darling. Oh my darling, Clementine, You were lost and gone forever, dreadful sorrow, Clementine. In my dreams she still doth haunt me, robed in garments, soaked with brine How in life I used to hug her, now she’s dead I’ll draw the line. Oh my darling, oh my darling. Oh my darling, Clementine, You were lost and gone forever, dreadful sorrow, Clementine.

Added this to my favorites on the first listen, because I just knew it would be worth a second listen... and a third, and a fourth, and a fifth... I wish The Sweptaways did more stuff like this. It suits their voices perfectly, and the arrangement is perfect. A wonderful and enjoyable interpretation of such a simple tune. Must share this with others. :)
