the problem is that this would mean there's no 3D Mario, AND no Mario Kart, you need at least one of them D1, and since Mario and Zelda are really the only Console Sellers, and we just got a Zelda game, that could mean we could have another WiiU situation, no one would be motivated to buy it.

Odyssey was announced at the switch presentation, and released a couple months later, near mario's anniversary. I want a new 3d Mario as much as everyone, but I do think that if we wait for that 40th anniversary, we will get something goated. I think Nintendo knows that online games are simply getting more popular, hence why they consistently update Splatoon, because there is a lot of live for Splatoon. It's part of the reason the Wii U wasn't a total failure. So a new mmo style game sounds like the exact experimental thing they would do.

Even considering what Samus Hunter is saying, the situation might not be that dramatic Like let's say the console releases mid June like leaks seem to say Then add something similar to the Switch 1 line up : 1) Big cross gen game (BotW), Pokemon Legends could fit well here 2) Party/casual game (1-2 switch), ideally we would get a switch sport 2 or Ring fit adventure 2 (it's been a while) here 3) A small experimental game (snipperclips), maybe the NSO game would fit here 4)3rd party support (Dragon Quest 1&2, Skylanders, Just dance, etc.). This would probably be where Switch 2 would do much better than Switch 1. I could see monster hunter and/or other recent cross platform games coming to switch day That's plenty enough for day one The bigger point is that the launch window could also be pretty packed and Samus Hunter would still be right What if 3D Mario releases 3 weeks later early July? That's close enough for most people. Then Mario Kart 9 would fit well for the holidays Anyways no need to feel gloomy about it, I doubt the system won't sell well

I think you're overreacting a bit. It's still EXTREMELY likely these 2 games will both still come out year one. I think Nintendo might be experimenting a bit and maybe the big launch game is Prime 4, also coming out on Switch 1 the same day, kinda like BotW in 2017. Then, maybe we get 3D Mario a month or so after launch, and Mario Kart as the major holiday title.

The Switch 2 is gonna have a very similar launch to the Switch, but I think it’s gonna be sort of like Opposite Day. Instead of the big new Zelda, it will be the big new Mario. Instead of 8 Deluxe, it’s gonna be Smash Bros Ultimate DX.

And while we're in rumour territory anyway, it was rumored that the system was delayed so it wouldn't have a lackluster launch, so I don't think we should woery about that. I feel like people would just see the "Switch 2" as a rehash if Nintendo were to release either a new 3D Mario game or a new Mario Kart game as launch titles. I can see why people think it makes sense for them to do this as it's the safest way to go about it and it's likely to be a guaranteed success but for the launch of this new console, I believe Metroid Prime 4 would make the most sense to be the launch title. Metroid is without a doubt a more niche franchise compared to Mario, but it's still a beloved one by many. Not to mention, it's been how many years since Metroid Prime 3? Having Metroid Prime 4 be a launch title would break the mold of what is otherwise a predictable pattern. And if there's one thing that I know about Nintendo is that they are unpredictable and usually have something up their sleeves that would take anyone by surprise.

Thinking about it, especially after the explosion in popularity from COVID, I think Animal Crossing has a good chance of being the launch title if there's no Mario. Think about it; they didn't keep up with updates in New Horizons, & now that they see that people really wanted them to, they put in a new Animal Crossing day one & continue to update it throughout the entire life of the Switch 2.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry to much about this. The switch had a successful launch without a Mario game, I know it had BOTW but some of the best selling switch games are games that weren't launch titles. Also while Mario is probably the best shot at sales, the Wii U is proof that having Mario as a launch title doesnt always guarantee perfect sales. I feel like the console won't only sell if a Mario game is there day one, after all, while Zelda is a big series, it didnt have the same reach sales wise until BOTW and that was enough to hold us over until MK8D and SMO released.

They're going to have Mario, but I think they want to launch it during the holiday season next year, just like they did for the Switch. Also, Mario's anniversaries take place in the fall. But here's a thought: what if Nintendo decides to launch Switch 2 with a NEW IP? What if they take the Playtest Program, turn it into a full game, and launch it along with the new console? What system has since the N64? The GameCube's launch title Luigi's Mansion was at least in the Mario universe, but the Wii launched with Twilight Princess. I guess you could say the Wii U launched with New Super Mario Bros. U, but that didn't really feel like a brand-new Mario game. Then the Switch launched with Breath of the Wild. Even if we go with handheld systems, the 3DS didn't launch with a Mario game, and before that, the GBA launched with Super Mario Advance, which was just a port of Super Mario Bros. 2 and the DS launched with the remake Super Mario 64 DS.

I think that the launch title will be for a new 3d Mario game, but if not that it most definitely will be Luigi’s Mansion 4. I am really looking forward to that game, but I do hope that the launch title for switch is a new 3d Mario game. Either way, I am very pumped for switch 2 and can’t wait to see how it will turn out and get some new games.

I'm just gonna say it because I don't care, its an open world Star Fox game. What can be bigger then an open world Zelda or Mario? A solar system size open world game. Miyamoto did say that he wanted to put more energy into Pikmin and Star Fox. We already got Pikmin, Star Fox is next and the joysticks potentially having resistance feedback to demo it.

Been wondering if there's more to Samus Hunter's choice of Miyamoto-san's crossed arms photo than meets the eye. What if its not just a "No" sign, but an X? If the March release is still in play, could there be an uprated version of Xenoblade Chronicles X for Switch 2 and game and console launch same day? I agree its not a system seller anymore than Metroid Prime 4 is, but if its only one of two or three games with more limited appeal launching March 20, it might make more sense. Rolling out two or three titles that are in the sub-5 million seller range but are graphics showcases might not be a bad idea to set the stage before the big sellers come in the summer and fall. I don't think this happens and the Miyamoto crossed-arms photo really does mean only "No" (mainly because Samus Hunter seems to be pushing May-July release rather than March) but its fascinating to consider. But maybe another game with "X" coming in the later timeframe could be in play, too.

Mario has the biggest reach out of all the Nintendo franchises, especially Mario kart. The people buying the console at launch are mostly more dedicated fans of nintendo, these people would be happy with a more niche/less popular nintendo franchise (not to say that Prime 4 is a Switch 2 game, we don't know anything). I agree with Nintendo Forecast here, Nintendo is probably looking for a smaller launch with die hard fans singing their praises about the console, and then release the games with a bigger reach throughout the first year preparing for a big marketing push for a (hopefully) very successful Holiday season. They are playing the long game, we can't complain about that especially since these games releasing at launch is a thing that we ourselves made up (we're probably getting them in the first year anyways).
