The main criticism of the film is that wish it had a similar documentary style epilogue as it did for the prologue to bookend the movie showing the aftermath of the airing. I think that was a crucial missing element. I wanted to know what happened. Was Jack Delroy committed? Was the show canceled? Were there lawsuits for the deaths that perhaps bankrupted the fictional UBC network? These are all questions that easily could have been answered with a similar style epilogue as the opening prologue. I also think it would’ve made for a more cohesive movie overall to have that book end. I don’t know maybe they’re saving that all for a sequel 🤷🏻♂️
@squatchit57008 ай бұрын
Nah, that's what makes the whole movie creepier, it is is implying without spoon feeding you the info, that everything went back to normal and everyone forgot. Because history only remembers the kings.
@tommoore41288 ай бұрын
@@squatchit5700 well that just makes no sense. The movie is presented as a documentary that is presenting the found footage, so clearly it wasn’t totally forgotten. Why wouldn’t there be an epilogue telling us of the aftermath, even if it was largely forgotten by the public, which I seriously doubt given the nature of the events.
@garymitchell58998 ай бұрын

Thanks for taking the time to peel the onion on this film. The Bohemian Club is not a cult. It's a secret society. Cults eagerly recruit, while groups like the Bohemian Club, the Bilderberg Group, and Skull and Bones remain exclusive to the extreme. The film mentions 'The Grove,' which alludes to the Bohemian Grove where their meetings take place. The influence of secret societies on the general public is great, and the film touches on this crucial point.

I saw this film twice already and plan to own it when it gets a physical release. It's so well done and crafted, I am impressed to say the least. The lead guy was on Last Podcast on the Left and seemed like a cool person who grew up on comics and horror movies. The sad part is you feel for Jack Delroy. He's not an unlikable person despite what he's done. I reminded me of Silent Hill 2, the video game.
@psychedelictacos91187 ай бұрын
I wasn't thinking of Silent Hill 2 but I can see the analogy, maybe like Silent Hill 2 the whole show was actually in some limbo world between the real world and hell where Jack, like James is made to face his demons and reconcile with actions especially like James in relation to his wife!

I personally found the film to be a blast. I was going into this film with some expectation but not to much and frankly coming out I was proud to say I really enjoyed this one. One of those films were I knew the synopsis before watching this but not watching the trailer, only seeing like a 10 second clip of the film. David Dastmalchian does a great job at being a typical tv host with him showing his Charminster side and his less positive side when the cameras are off which were my favourite part of his character. The production design for the film was so spot on to what a 70s talk show would be. I really like the hole thing where the devil recognise him from his past (the forest power rich celebrities place) and during the final act there are hint's that he made have made a deal with The devil earlier which involved his wife death which was kind of the plot twist but wasn't explore enough, which I respected I felt this was one of those films were it didn't have to be explored and left it to the audience to explore it for themselves and decide on it. The only thing that I thought they could have done better was to fleshing out the back story of Dastmalchian character because I thought it could have been more relative more rather than just be in the beginning, which I like but it would have been more if they just well talk about it more. Overall I give it a 4/5

Not knowing the full story is confusing and will give one a sense of dread, which is the perfect feeling if you are watch a mystery/scary story. Having more information would have take away from the build up at the end and have made the movie so much longer and probably worse. It was nice to see a movie the respected the audience and didn't fill the movie with unnecessary information, there's something to actually talk about because the movie didn't say it all over and over already.
@markparker28938 ай бұрын
Enjoyed this movie very much but in my opinion Abraix isn’t the devil. The devil was there from the outset before Lily appeared. In my post I think the devil is Carmichael who was on the panel throughout the movie. This explains the evil presence from the outset and the interview with devil title. He does everything to discredit Jack pushing him to greater extremes to prove himself and to save the show. He created a desperation in Jack, Christou’s reaction when he spewed black vomit all happened before Lily appeared which Carmichael dismissed. I’m convinced Carmichael was actually the devil, master of illusion, trickster are all traits of the devil.

Maybe it's only me but I think Carmichael is the devil. The film centers on Jack's pursuit for the truth and Carmichael attempts to dispel that the devil exists. The clue is in the title, Lilley is a distraction, yes she is possessed but not by the devil. The other major clue is Carmichael performing magic, that we all saw...I.e master of illusion. Another reference to the devil and finally as an illusionist he performed the greatest trick....that the devil does not exist by finding ways to discredit Jack by re-engineering his magic trick and discredited his own work but we as the viewers saw the worms. He then appears to be killed by the demon but listen to what he says, he calls it master, he knows what it is. I have watched this movie several times now and I am fully convinced the plot lines are there to deceive us that ultimately the devil doesn't exist yet he is named in the title.

It’s such a layered movie in my opinion up there with the 70’s and 80’s classics. The reason why it worked was due to stripping back on pointless jump scares and over done CGI. It will go down as a classic like the Wicker Man which is set around a similar period.

Everything that happened on this movie has a refrence to real life events. Its clear that the sayanic cult and its leader are a reference to Anton Levey and the church of Satan. Kristou is a reference to Hri Geller who did the talk show circuit and would bend spoons with his mind, the turn oat is another reference to a popular magician that came out and told the truth about how magicians do their tricks and bevame a smug narcissistic jerk that thought he had the answers to everything. "The grove" ad they called it is Bohemian Grove" that still ecists today ehere yhe elite go to do satanic rituals and to get to the highest level of success a loved one mist ne sacrificed! This was all based on real life shit that went on and is still going on today. Even when they did the hypnosis of the audience, thats literally why Hollywood was started was to put a spell on the viewers with mind control opps and when jack looked straight into the camera and said turn off your tv now, he was talking to the REAL audience telling us to be careful because they've been controlling us through the media since its inception!

I would encourage you to watch the film- as an artist, I was hesitant and upset when I heard they used it. In truth, they had many professionals work on the project, and what little work actually utilized ai was in service of providing support for a small team with a small budget. Being able to allow a computer to save them time meant more effort and work could be put into the other grander effects. The AI scenes in question are also simply 3 interstitial photos that get collectively less than 2 minutes of screen time, so there’s that.
