started learning monday, so took about 5 days. pretty hard. biggest issue is hard to hear things, constantly second guessing whether on beat or not. my heads not in the zone right now either, rather preoccupied with stuff, i'm taking a break. also, was second guessing whether i'm even playing correct notes but thats how deathspell is. theres a tab out there but its the worst tab i've ever seen. i'm sure someone will see this and think the same of my interpretation.
the part at 3:45 is interesting, the notes are held to ring out a little bit but i'm unable to figure out a way to do that without dislocating fingers. frequently online you see people questioning what tuning deathspell uses. i feel theres no compelling reason to believe they use anything other than D standard unless youre one of those dickriding deathspell fanatics that thinks they operate on some ridiculous untouchable level of artistry, originality, and skill, (THEY DONT EVEN USE STANDARD TUNINGS MAAAN!!! 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝓲𝓷 𝓪 𝓬𝓪𝓿𝓮) however parts like 3:45 are curious. I suppose it depends on the type of person you are. do you believe they use different tunings to achieve those types of parts easier, are they just layering multiple guitar tracks since they are strictly a studio band anyway what is there for them to prove they could have 20 guitars going for all we know, or are you like me in the sense that you believe you just need to practice more. personally, regardless of the truth, always need more practice. i'm also sure deathspell has bigger hands than i do as well. stretching can only take you so far until you hit hard limits, though it's up to the individual mentally to decide when that is, perhaps rendering the phrase "hard limit" inaccurate as its all a mental excuse for failures.
ye i should take a break.
on a final note, i still don't know what synarchy means. it sounds liek totally uber metal tho. it also sounds like a word that only people that wear turtlenecks would use. people like steven wilson. i 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦 steven wilson! guthrie govan, why?!? all those years, 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥...!!!!

ya great description. so many fans get caught in the whole meme mystique of the band never showing their faces, names, collaborators, etc, the whole thing with "metaphysical satanism" (which let's be real is just some edgy rebranding of modern philosophy shit) and the production making stuff hard to transcribe. on a somewhat unrelated note, why do you think Guthrie did it

The production has been getting nicer though for a while now tbf. As for being rebranded philosophy, I mean, they directly use plenty of quotes and have listed out their lyrical reference books in interviews here and there. I think they're pretty clear that's what they're going for, essentially, setting aside the religious concept album stuff. Although they probably wouldn't call themselves edgy. I think Guthrie, with Wilson, found a gig that was apparently stable and offered him decent creative satisfaction, as they seemed to do lots of live shows and Guthrie stuck around to record several albums. They also seem to personally get along well, although I have a hard time imagining anyone disliking Guthrie. Anyway the point is it seemed like a cushy gig for him to flex his prog rock guitar interests in a paying stable effort with the workhorse Wilson. Unfortunately, he is an older gentleman with old music tastes and instead of Guthrie doing guest solos on a Gorguts track or something else actually cool, he liked to moonlight in Wilsons 60s jerk off band. And the world was forever a sadder place.

@@apathy420 true that. well he did solo on a Periphery song, which is the closest thing we'll get to evil Guthrie, that is to say: not much lmao

The bit at 4:57 was always my favorite portion of the track. It is very uncommon to hear them pull out power chords like that haha

I also am in the camp that DSO are just deeply skilled musicians, no microtonal guitars or ridiculous tunings. They are just VERY GOOD at their craft. Also I think Synarchy means something along the lines of "2 or more things joining in harmony". Which makes the title even cooler in my opinion.

That's also my favorite part, it's the only *really* exciting part for me. I'm not a fan of their old classic black metal style but i imagine they used power chords more in that era. When they do pull out the power chords now they manage to make them sound disorientating and skronky anyway, very smart composing. I just don't understand people that make ridiculous claims about their methods. I guess i'm a bit of a dick but honestly it's small minded to me, like people can't fathom someone being so good. Metal would never have gotten to this level with that attitude. Huh, interesting word. I normally talk like a moron so I'll probably never use it : )

its not *too* bad. kind of a smorgasbord of standard deathspellian moves. lots of parts in this one, hard to hear, and 3:45 is curious. other than that nothing particularly intimidating
