I've had two original ones for decades. I love that they trigger off audio, tape, microphones with almost no delay. And sonically there is good as any modular synth I've owned: definitely better than all the Simmons and other drum.pad sources of the time. They are just incredible boxes.

Oh man, they would be worth a bit these days. Out of all of my music mates only one of them has an original.

have you ever tried using a Kenton midi to cv converter. the cv can change the pitch so you can use it a monosynth with midi? I always wanted to try it with mine. I like to use a delay so you can pull the volume then change the pitch and bring it back up..so you can play notes like an instrument without it sounding like a theramin...LOL
@craigwilliamsmusic2 жыл бұрын
I haven't. I have looked at getting one for my MonoPoly but thought that I would just hold out and get it fitted with MIDI. I'll have to check the Kentons out again though.

N what way does it have the edge? Is it a sound quality thing or build quality as I have the original but still feel like I would use the new one more for quality of life reasons thanks😎

If in the eurorack domain, a cost effective option is the Michigan Synths SY0.5 clone. Obviously only if you're already down that rabbit hole, because going down it to begin with certainly isn't cost effective ha.
@craigwilliamsmusic7 ай бұрын
100% I don't think the SY0.5 was released when I picked up this kit.
@toyzintheattic5 ай бұрын
Does this thing need a external sequencer? How do you programme a pattern?
@craigwilliamsmusic5 ай бұрын
You have to sequence it with either MIDI or CV/Gate

The modular version SY0.5 is a better option, becomes a different beast all together.
@craigwilliamsmusic Жыл бұрын
Oh nice, I just had a look at it. I feel that it's almost a AFX module if you get that modulation rocking.
@flyfishing_uk Жыл бұрын
@@craigwilliamsmusic yeah I totally agree. It becomes much more once modulated.
@stuartbennett430111 ай бұрын
Love the SY0.5. It’s like a mini Moog DFAM when you get the modulation going to it. The mode switch by cv really sets it apart from the desktop.

I starting really liking this synth ever since I found out a band I like (mindflayer) uses one and they get super unique sounds with it. I wish there was an affordable clone but the cheapest one i found was 400 and i dont have enough. are there any good alternatives or other clones?
@craigwilliamsmusic Жыл бұрын
I think $400 is about the cheapest you will find. I think it's a great instrument but for $400 I think there are more out there that will give you more bang for your buck.

There isn't much to the original so I'm sure it will get you pretty close and for a cheap price. I'm not mad at them releasing this clone since it hasn't been produced for some years other than smaller companies making clones or Modular units.
